summary: oikawa doesn't mind that other people are beginning to realize how cute iwaizumi actually is. he totally doesn't. (except, well, he really, really does.) college!au.
a/n: first fic for the black day fic advent, written for youree! ♡ here's to hoping you'll enjoy reading this fic as much as i enjoyed writing it, bb! ((this is also my first attempt at this pairing, and the haikyuu ficdom in general, so please be a little kind! ;;;))
One of the many things Oikawa hates about college, aside from the usual crappy professors, awful class schedules and overpriced meal plans that don't even taste as remotely good as they look, is the fact that it isn't anything like high school where he had Iwaizumi by his side and always just within his reach.
Granted, they do attend the same university, but they barely have any classes together that Oikawa misses seeing Iwaizumi on campus more often than not. It also doesn't help that they were assigned to different roommates at the beginning of the year, which only made it all the more difficult for Oikawa to monopolize Iwaizumi's time like he's used to before. It's honestly hard - going from seeing each other everyday to only meeting up when both of them can find the free time amidst their hectic schedule to do so.
So when Iwaizumi had sent him a text one day ("hey, let's go and grab a quick snack later, yeah?" - simple as it may be, but it made Oikawa's day considerably brighter than ever), Oikawa had quickly replied and made plans to meet up with him at that tiny cafe just a few blocks away from their university.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Iwaizumi suddenly asks over a plate of pasta and drinks. They've managed to snag the table at the farthermost corner of the cafe and while it didn't necessarily provide any kind of privacy like Oikawa had hoped for, they're still isolated enough that Oikawa can freely - and shamelessly - ogle at Iwaizumi without the worry of prying eyes niggling at the back of his head. Iwaizumi frowns and self-consciously pats his face. "Is there something on my face?"
"Nothing new aside from your frowny wrinkles, Iwa-chan," Oikawa easily replies with a grin. Iwaizumi doesn't even blink at the familiar insult, just continues to stare imploringly at him. Oikawa rests his chin on his hand and tries to mask the underlying longing in his voice when he continues, "It just feels like it's been weeks since I've last seen you, is all." And then, just like that, Oikawa allows the same teasing grin to return, rounding up his lips and lighting up his face. "So won't you be a little kinder and allow me five more undisturbed minutes to just stare at your face?"
Iwaizumi quickly pushes Oikawa's face away with his hand, stopping him from staring at Iwaizumi any longer. "Stop that, idiot!"
His flustered reaction immediately draws a hearty laugh from Oikawa's lips, one that's loud enough to have a few people turning their heads towards their direction. Iwaizumi gives him a rather stern glare but Oikawa just feels so ridiculously happy and satisfied that he can't even be bothered to keep his voice down.
"Don't be so mean to me, Iwa-chan! We haven't been spending enough time together these days and I really did miss you, you know," Oikawa tells him.
Iwaizumi heaves a sigh then and, for a second, Oikawa regrets letting those words slip so carelessly past his lips. "I know, and I'm really sorry about that," Iwaizumi says. The apologetic frown pulling the corners of his lips down is something that Oikawa never wanted to see on his face.
Oikawa thinks it's ridiculous that Iwaizumi feels guilty for something that he doesn't have any control over. College was a lot harder than any of them had expected and it definitely wasn't Iwaizumi's fault that they've been spending considerably less time together lately.
"Aww, Iwa-chan, stop frowning or you'll get more ugly wrinkles on your face," Oikawa says in an attempt to lighten the mood up. It mostly works - Iwaizumi now has his usual sour expression directed at Oikawa. Oh, well. At least it's not a frown? "How about this - you can start making it up to me by telling me stories? Like, hmm, how are your new roommates?"
At the mention of roommates, Iwaizumi immediately scrunches his face into an expression akin to discomfort, like he's suddenly remembering a very bad memory that he's been trying so hard to forget.
"They're fine. Mostly. Akaashi is quiet most of the time but he's actually a good guy," Iwaizumi shares. Oikawa nods, remembering him as Fukurodani's relatively calm setter who also possesses some damn amazing strategic skills. "Sugawara is, too, actually. But, sometimes, I can't help but think that he's...really weird."
That suddenly catches Oikawa's interest. "How so?"
"Well," Iwaizumi hesitates. It's not everyday that Oikawa sees Iwaizumi looking so unsure and hesitant, and it only makes him wonder what in the world Sugawara did to have Iwaizumi behaving so unlike himself like this. "There was this one time when he just called me cute out of the blue?"
Oikawa raises an eyebrow at him, both in question and in amusement. "Are you sure you didn't just misheard him, Iwa-chan?"
Iwaizumi scowls at him. "I'm sure!" Iwaizumi then went on and told Oikawa how he'd been intently going over his reading materials that specific afternoon, perusing each one with great focus, when he'd suddenly heard someone giggling across the room. When Iwaizumi had looked up, he was met by the amused expression written all over Sugawara's face and-.
"When I asked him what was so funny, he just shook his head, all mysterious and stuff, and said I didn't know you could be so cute, Iwaizumi-kun," Iwaizumi narrates. "Really, what's up with that, right?"
"Maybe you were doing that thing with your mouth again, Iwa-chan," Oikawa replies pensively. He can almost clearly picture in his head how Iwaizumi looks like when he's too absorbed in his own world. Oikawa can't help but smile. "You have the habit of pursing your lips all cute and child-like when you're so focused on something, you know."
"S-shut up, dumbass!" Iwaizumi sputters, a gorgeous hue of pink staining his cheeks. Oikawa laughs for what seems to be the nth time that afternoon and wishes he can easily snap a picture of Iwaizumi right now without risking his life in the process. "And how do you even know something like that, anyway!"
Oikawa's grin only grows wider before he finds himself saying, "Because I only have my eyes for you, Iwa-chan~"
His response has Iwaizumi calling Oikawa almost ten variations of the word stupid which, in return, makes Oikawa whine about how he's being extra mean today than usual.
They move on to talk about other things after that, the topic about Iwaizumi's roommates soon forgotten. It's not a surprise, really, if Oikawa's to be completely honest with himself. While Oikawa knows he's certainly the epitome of perfection - with his good looks and undeniable charm and amazing personality, who wouldn't agree, right? - he also knows that Iwaizumi, while he may be nowhere near Oikawa's flawlessness, is anything but your ordinary, run-of-the-mill kind of guy.
And, on top of that, Iwaizumi is unbelievably likeable as well, despite his usual grumpy and significantly less charming appearance. So it's only natural that someone else takes notice of him, too, right?
Still, Oikawa passes it off like it isn't a big deal. He just doesn't see the need to panic over the fact that someone else had apparently noticed Iwaizumi's weird, twisted-kind-of-cuteness and even had the gall to tell it to him straight in the face.
Because, really, one more person finally realizing how cute Iwaizumi is can't be all that alarming, can it?
Or so that's what Oikawa's been telling himself over and over again. He still ends up trying his best to keep tabs on Iwaizumi as often as he can, though, making sure to stop by some of the classes he and Sugawara share just so he can throw a knowing look - or, sometimes, a glare when Oikawa really can't help it - at Sugawara.
Sometimes, Sugawara acts like Oikawa's weird behavior doesn't bother him. But most often than not, Oikawa earns an amused laugh from Sugawara, like he knows exactly what Oikawa is on about and is practically having fun at getting him to behave like a little possessive boyfriend. Which then always ends up with Oikawa whining to Iwaizumi about how he really shouldn't trust Sugawara and that "maybe you should stop hanging out with him so much, Iwa-chan! He's really no good for you!"
Iwaizumi takes a second to grimace at Oikawa, who's currently lying spread eagle on his bed like he owns the damn thing, before going back to choosing his clothes from his closet. "I've spent years being friends with someone as horrible as you, so I think I know what's good and what it isn't good for me."
"Rude!" Oikawa sniffs. "You only say that, but I'm sure your heart is just bursting with so much love and adoration for me, Iwa-chan."
Iwaizumi snorts. "Yeah, sure, whatever helps you sleep at night, Trashykawa."
Oikawa frowns and lazily shifts in bed just so he can turn to his side, head cushioned on his folded arm. In this angle, he can see Iwaizumi standing in front of a full length mirror, fixing himself before his classes start for the day. Staring at him, Oikawa feels the sudden itch to coax Iwaizumi to bed and just hug him, kiss him, keep him close until Iwaizumi has to practically push Oikawa away so he can leave.
Oikawa's already done with his own classes, leaving him with nothing else to do for the remaining of his day. He originally plans to stay in Iwaizumi's dorm until Iwaizumi gets tired of his perpetually whiny, needy ass and kicks him out but even that doesn't seem possible now, seeing as Iwaizumi actually has afternoon classes to attend to.
He sighs, already dreading the thought of spending the next few hours or so alone. Maybe he'll go to the gym and play a little volleyball before going back to his dorm.
Just when Oikawa's about to persuade Iwaizumi to just skip his own classes and play volleyball with him instead, the door suddenly opens and Akaashi steps inside with his book bag slung on his shoulder.
It's Iwaizumi who greets him first with an arched eyebrow and a, "Hey. You done for the day already?"
Akaashi hums. "The professor for my last class couldn't come in today," he simply says as he strides his way across the room and towards his own bed - a double decker that he actually shares with Sugawara.
"Oh. Figures why you're here earlier than usual."
Oikawa only watches their exchange in silence. There's something akin to irritation already blooming in his chest and Oikawa knows it's ridiculous to feel this way but he really can't help it. Judging by their short conversation, Iwaizumi and Akaashi sounded like they knew each other's class schedules alarmingly well and something about that thought just doesn't sit very well with Oikawa.
Still, Oikawa tries not to let that get to him too much. He quickly sits up in bed, instead, and tries to snatch Iwaizumi's attention by pouting. "Iwa-chan! You didn't even properly introduce me to your roommate!"
Iwaizumi rolls his eyes at him, but still indulges Oikawa's childish whining nonetheless. He turns his attention back to Akaashi again. "Akaashi-kun, this is Oikawa," Iwaizumi says, all the while gesturing at the guy comfortably sitting on his bed. "You probably already know him on the court, but don't get fooled by this guy. Oikawa's just about the most annoying person you'll ever meet in this university."
"Don't say such harsh things like that about me, Iwa-chan! And especially to other people!" Oikawa cries, to which Iwaizumi only responds with another snort. Really rude. He frowns disapprovingly at Iwaizumi for a second, before finally looking at Akaashi and pasting his most saccharine smile on his face. It's the same one that Oikawa uses when he wants to get a good impression from someone (it's the same one that he never had to use in front of Iwaizumi). "Anyway, it's nice to meet you, Keiji-chan~"
"Same goes to you, Oikawa-san," Akaashi politely says, nodding his head as a form of acknowledgement.
Oikawa doesn't really know anything about Akaashi aside from the few, rare times that Iwaizumi mentions him in passing during their conversations. So Oikawa figures he might as well try and hold a polite talk with Akaashi while he's waiting for Iwaizumi to get ready. Oikawa asks him random things - what he's majoring at, his interests, if he's still playing volleyball. To which Akaashi only responds with short and simple answers: he's studying to become a teacher; volleyball and photography; and yes, he still does.
Oikawa also finds out that Akaashi's planning to join the varsity team this season with Bokuto and the knowledge does nothing but unnecessarily ignite his competitive spirit.
"See you in the try-outs, then," Oikawa breezily says.
Anyone with a proper hearing can easily detect the hint of challenge in his voice. And that includes Iwaizumi, who isn't at all surprised that Oikawa's behaving like this again. Being competitive is just a part of Oikawa's nature. "Stop picking fights with someone you just met, Asskawa."
"I wasn't!" Oikawa says, affronted.
"Right. Sure, you weren't."
"I really wasn't, Iwa-chan! I swear I was being nice and polite!"
"Tell that to someone who doesn't know you as long as I do."
Bummed out that Iwaizumi apparently doesn't believe him, Oikawa gets up from the bed and stalks towards Iwaizumi's direction. He proceeds to drape himself all over Iwaizumi, not even caring one bit if Akaashi is watching them from his bed. "Iwa-chan! You need to stop being so mean and grouchy at me all the time! How are girls even going to like you if they find out that you're always like this!" Oikawa exclaims.
Oikawa allows himself a few seconds to hold Iwaizumi like this, just surreptitiously enjoying his warmth, before he eventually lets go. Iwaizumi glares at Oikawa as soon as he's free from his clutches, but there's no mistaking the slight flush now evident on the apple of his cheeks. Oikawa grins at himself, pleased.
And then, as if belatedly realizing that Akaashi's still watching them with interest, Oikawa looks back at him and asks, "Am I right, Keiji-chan?"
Akaashi only tilts his head to the side in contemplation. He proceeds to look at Iwaizumi with a rather surprising intensity and there it is - that familiar instinct again that makes Oikawa want to pull Iwaizumi aside and shield him from Akaashi's stare.
Akaashi then finally hums after a heartbeat. "Iwaizumi-san doesn't need to change anything about himself. I think he's rather cute enough for people to like him as he is."
As expected, Iwaizumi flushes even more at that, grumbling under his breath about stupid Oikawa, this conversation is all your fault! Oikawa, on the other hand, finds himself unable to completely look away from Akaashi, not when the meaningful smile playing on those lips keeps on pulling him back.
It's only when Iwaizumi's yanking him out the door, fingers wrapped securely around his wrist, that Oikawa finally manages to find his escape.
(And this is about the same time that Oikawa realizes one thing: obviously, Sugawara Koushi isn't the only one he needs to be wary of.
Well. Damn.)
Oikawa is fairly convinced that there is a Higher Being out there who gets a kick out of mocking him and testing his limits.
Because, really, that has got to be the only possible explanation as to why Oikawa finds himself sulking alone at the gym again, just mindlessly hitting ball after ball, when he should be out having lunch with Iwaizumi instead.
Or so that was Oikawa's plan before Iwaizumi had turned him down and his invitation to eat lunch together today, explaining through a quick phone call that he and his roommates have the same Chemistry Lab report to work on and finish. The deadline, apparently, is already tomorrow and Iwaizumi had told Oikawa that he really couldn't afford to slack off now. Oikawa whined at Iwaizumi, naturally, but eventually relented when Iwaizumi promised to make it up to him the next time they meet.
Oikawa had understood, of course, but it still doesn't change the fact that this has been happening quite frequently lately, with Iwaizumi always getting ambushed by Sugawara and Akaashi to do something or another. They're probably not doing it maliciously - or so that's what Oikawa really hopes - but being robbed off of his precious time with Iwaizumi leaves Oikawa fuming every time it happens nonetheless.
Oikawa tosses another ball just high enough for him to hit, feeling a little satisfied when it makes contact with the palm of his hand and sends it flying through the air. It goes over the net, unsurprisingly, and the sound of the ball smacking against the gym's polished floor isn't enough to drown Oikawa's constant mumbles of plotting Sugawara's and Akaashi's possible deaths under his breath.
"Easy there, you might actually kill someone with your serve, Oikawa-kun."
There's a laugh that follows soon after, one that Oikawa has heard enough times already for it to be familiar. Oikawa glances at the door then, and is completely unsurprised to see Bokuto striding towards one of the benches to place his bag there.
"Spending your free time here again, Kou-chan?" Oikawa asks, his smile bright and teasing. "My, my. You must really like me if you keep coming back at the same time just to see me play."
A boisterous laugh again. "Don't flatter yourself too much."
Bokuto quickly finishes his stretches and takes his place on the other side of the court. Oikawa knows a challenge when he sees one and, right now, he's pretty sure that the smirk painted on Bokuto's face is one he can't ignore. So Oikawa tosses and gives Bokuto his powerful jump serve, the loud impact of the ball hitting his palm reverberating against the four corners of the almost empty gym.
Bokuto attempts to receive it but sadly misses by a few inches. Oikawa makes sure to grin at him then, proud and shameless, from across the court.
Bokuto clucks his tongue in annoyance. "I'll be able to return your jump serve soon, you'll see!"
Oikawa laughs in glee. Riling Bokuto up is just so easy and fun. "I'd like to see you try, Kou-chan~"
They rally for a few more times after that, running around their own, respective side of the court as they hit the ball back and forth. Playing volleyball with only two people isn't nearly as fun when it's with a whole team, however, and it's really only a matter of time before either one of them gets bored. In this case, it's Oikawa who eventually stops in the middle of their game and calls it a day. Bokuto opts to stay behind though, saying that he hasn't played enough yet to be really satisfied today.
"Hey, why don't you give me your number before you go?" Bokuto suddenly asks. "I mean, we can just contact each other if we're up for a quick game or something?"
Oikawa thinks he can always persuade Iwaizumi to go play with him. But then again, Oikawa always finds it infinitely better to have Iwaizumi stand on the same side of the court with him, instead of against him.
So Oikawa shrugs and agrees, if only for that reason alone. "Sure."
Bokuto smiles and hands Oikawa his phone then. He's in the middle of typing his phone number when a message suddenly comes in. Oikawa ends up accidentally opening it with a swipe of his finger.
It's a message from Akaashi and Oikawa's eyes quickly widen in shock as soon as he sees it - attached in the message is actually a picture of Sugawara, Akaashi, and Iwaizumi, with the latter squished in between the two. Sugawara and Akaashi have both of their arms wrapped around Iwaizumi and they're cuddled so close to him that Oikawa can't seem to find any space left between their bodies.
don't we look cute, bokuto-san? :) is what the message reads.
Yes, they're cute, Oikawa grits his teeth in annoyance, his grip on Bokuto's phone tightening with each passing second that he spends just staring at the offensive picture, but obviously not cute enough for Oikawa to spare their lives once he gets hold of both of them.
Something in Oikawa's face must have gotten Bokuto alarmed but Oikawa's already too busy strangling Sugawara and Akaashi in his head to pay any real attention to Bokuto's worries (and then cries of distress once he notices the steel-like grip Oikawa has on his phone).
Desperate times certainly call for desperate measures.
So when Oikawa finally, finally got hold of Iwaizumi one day - who's very much alone at the dorm he shares with Sugawara and Akaashi - Oikawa grabbed the opportunity with quick hands and didn't hold himself back.
Oikawa traps Iwaizumi underneath him and doesn't waste a second as he kisses the life out of Iwaizumi. It's needy and fervent and rough, like pressing his lips against Iwaizumi's slightly chapped ones over and over and over again is the only thing Oikawa knows how to do.
(And maybe, maybe, at this moment, it is.)
Oikawa opens his mouth with Iwaizumi’s, letting his tongue press just past Iwaizumi’s lips and squeezing tighter at his waist when a shiver goes through him, making Iwaizumi cling tighter to Oikawa's shoulders in the process.
"Iwa-chan," Oikawa says on an exhale. It makes Iwaizumi shiver again to hear his name uttered so softly between their lips.
Iwaizumi just lets Oikawa take the reins from that point onwards, lets Oikawa duck his head so he can trace his lips over Iwaizumi's jaw and leave hot kisses there. Iwaizumi keeps his arms around Oikawa's back as he eventually drops his mouth to Iwaizumi’s neck, dragging his lips down wetly and then grinning against the skin when Iwaizumi's fingers dig especially hard into Oikawa’s back.
Oikawa then sucks with just about every intention of leaving a bruise on Iwaizumi's neck and, almost immediately, the warning sirens blare so loud in Iwaizumi's head. Now, don't get him wrong - Iwaizumi isn't really against the idea of Oikawa marking him. There's always something incredibly arousing at the feel of Oikawa's mouth sucking hickeys into whatever patch of Iwaizumi's skin he can reach, of Oikawa's teeth scraping against his neck, his collarbones, his shoulders, his thighs. But Oikawa knows that Iwaizumi has an important class presentation tomorrow, one that Iwaizumi had been diligently preparing for, and it really doesn't make any sense as to why Oikawa's suddenly acting this way.
Exerting a gentle but determined force, Iwaizumi lifts Oikawa's head from where it's currently tucked at the crook of his neck. He's met with a little resistance, but once he's finally able to move Oikawa, Iwaizumi firmly holds his face in his hands and looks at him squarely. "What's up with you?"
Oikawa pouts, eyebrows drawn together in clear frustration. There's already a hickey starting to form just underneath Iwaizumi's pulse point, blooming red against his pale skin, and Oikawa stares at it longingly. It's only when Iwaizumi flicks his forehead does Oikawa finally tear his gaze away from the bruise to look at Iwaizumi's face.
"That hurts, Iwa-chan!" Oikawa whines, immediately reaching up to rub the sore spot where Iwaizumi had hit him.
"I wouldn't have hit you if you were just listening to me," Iwaizumi says, without even a hint of remorse. Still, he reaches up and soothes the tender spot with his thumb, an amused smile crawling its way on his lips when Oikawa immediately leans into his touch like cat. "What were you even doing?"
"Giving you a hickey, of course!"
"I know that, idiot," Iwaizumi answers with a roll of his eyes. He can still feel the phantom sensation of Oikawa's warm mouth against his skin and Iwaizumi really hopes he's not blushing this time because he doesn't need to give Oikawa any more reason to make fun of him. "I mean...why? You don't really seem like yourself today, Oikawa. Did something happen?"
"Nothing. I just-" Oikawa suddenly trails off, pursing his lips in that usual way when he's thinking so hard. He opens his mouth, then closes it again, does it a few more times before Oikawa finally settles with, "I need to stake my claim on you, Iwa-chan!"
Iwaizumi scrunches his eyebrows in both confusion and disbelief. "Stake your what?"
"Stake my claim on you!" Oikawa repeats with a little more enthusiasm this time. Unfortunately, it does nothing to make Iwaizumi understand what the hell Oikawa is talking about right now.
As though sensing Iwaizumi's confusion, Oikawa huffs in annoyance, like it's definitely Iwaizumi's lack of common sense that hinders him from getting Oikawa's point and not anything else. "Iwa-chan, don't you understand? I'm doing this for your own sake! We need to let people know that you're taken so they can finally stop making advances on you."
"They?" Iwaizumi repeats with a frown. "Who's they?"
Oikawa groans; he's so close to losing his wits right now. Oikawa wonders how in the world Iwaizumi had managed to live most of his life when he's actually, frustratingly, dense as fuck like this. "Sugawara and Akaashi! Your roommates, Iwa-chan!"
Iwaizumi only stares at Oikawa for five seconds straight, gravely pondering how he'd actually fallen in love with someone so ridiculously stupid. Honestly, Iwaizumi would've laughed right at his face - and he's so close to doing it, too, the beginnings of a giggle just itching to escape right out of his throat - but Oikawa looks so damn serious at the moment that it'll probably make Iwaizumi look insensitive as hell if he did. So Iwaizumi decides to take pity on him and be a little less hurtful with his response, "Are you actually an idiot, Oikawa?"
Oikawa pouts. "So mean! I'm only concerned about you, Iwa-chan. I know you don't exactly have any experience of turning down other people, so I'm just helping you find an easy way out!"
"And I'm supposed to thank you for that?" Iwaizumi fires back, grimacing.
"Well, that's what nice people would normally do, you kn-"
"Shut up, Shittykawa. I'm not thanking you just because of something so ridiculous as that," Iwaizumi says, making Oikawa pout even harder at him. "And where are you even getting these stupid ideas from, anyway? Because the last time I checked, both Sugawara and Akaashi are definitely not interested in me like that."
"But they are!" Oikawa insists. "They do like you, Iwa-chan!"
"As a friend, maybe. Or a roommate. But not anything beyond that, dumbass," Iwaizumi counters. Before Oikawa can even open his mouth to protest again, Iwaizumi continues, "Sugawara's happily dating his ex-captain, and I think Akaashi's too busy trying to think of ways to make Bokuto jealous to even pay attention to anyone else like that."
It only takes a few seconds before Oikawa's eyes are quickly widening in realization and, predictably, a bashful expression overtakes his face not soon after. It makes Iwaizumi shake his head in exasperation. Iwaizumi believes he deserves to be awarded for being able to continuously put up with Oikawa's own brand of stupidity.
"You're really impossible," Iwaizumi says to a tuft of Oikawa's hair. Oikawa has then resorted to just hide his face in the crook of Iwaizumi's neck, feeling too mortified at himself for coming up with such silly assumptions about Iwaizumi's roommates. "Hypothetically, it's not like I would care if they do like me, you know."
A slight movement from the boy sprawled on top of him tells Iwaizumi that Oikawa's actually listening, so Iwaizumi decides to continue, taking in a rather huge gulpful of breath before letting it out in one go, "I mean, w-why would I even think about dating anyone else when I already have you, idiot?"
His face feels hot- hell, his entire body feels so fucking hot. Iwaizumi thinks he's going to burst from too much embarrassment just from saying that out loud. But, Iwaizumi supposes, there really isn't anything else he can do at this point - Oikawa's just pretty stupid sometimes that Iwaizumi needs to spell even the most obvious things to him.
Oikawa then lifts his head, and Iwaizumi feels that itch to punch his smile right off his face. "Aww, are you finally confessing your innermost feelings for me, Iwa-chan?" he teases.
(And sure, it entails Iwaizumi to sacrifice whatever is left of his dignity most of the time but Iwaizumi thinks it's a small price to pay just to see one of Oikawa's disgustingly pleased smiles making itself at home on his face.)
"I wasn't, you dumbass!" Iwaizumi squawks in indignance. "I just meant I don't need another person to take care of because you're already a handful just by yourself!"
"Okay, whatever you say, Iwa-chan~" Oikawa singsongs, that awfully blinding smile still on his lips, before he proceeds to tuck his head under Iwaizumi's chin again. Iwaizumi sighs; maybe he'll just let Oikawa have his fun today.
Now that Oikawa has given him at least a few seconds of silence to himself, Iwaizumi can't help but ponder over their conversation. Iwaizumi would rather go through a thousand painful deaths than be caught saying it out loud but, really, seeing Oikawa jealous and worry over someone taking his place is actually really cute.
"You're so stupid, Tooru," Iwaizumi just finds himself murmuring exasperatingly. His fingers gently brush through Oikawa's hair and it makes Oikawa purr in contentment. "So, so stupid."
Oikawa hums. "But you still love me despite that, right, Hajime?" Oikawa whispers. Iwaizumi can't help but shiver when Oikawa's breath fans across his skin.
Iwaizumi rolls his eyes again but no one can mistake the obvious fondness in his voice when he answers-
"Unbelievably so."
(
"Maybe we could put this up in our dorm," Sugawara suggests out of nowhere, his gaze never drifiting away from the picture stored in Akaashi's phone.
He and Akaashi are currently at the library, with Akaashi steadily working on finishing his homeworks and Sugawara almost nose-deep into his books He's just about done with studying for his exams, though, so Sugawara has decided to take a quick break before diving back into his notes again.
Which is why he's probably spent almost fifteen minutes just staring at the picture they took the other day, smiling so wide when Sugawara suddenly remembers how Iwaizumi had been so uncomfortably cute being squished between him and Akaashi.
"We look so cute, don't we?" Sugawara asks. He forces Akaashi to look up from his homework then, incessantly waving his phone back and forth right at his face. Akaashi only grunts because he's already answered the same question just a few days ago - on the same day that the picture was actually taken - and he just doesn't see any point of answering it again now.
It's not like Sugawara actually needs his confirmation, anyway.
"We should start taking pictures like this with Iwaizumi-kun," Sugawara says. He grabs one of the books lying on their table and searches for the last page that he'd bookmarked earlier. "And then we can frame a few and display them at our dorm! It would be nice if Daichi can see them, too..."
Akaashi opens his mouth, already poised to say something comforting-
"...and then I can at least have my fun seeing him try and convince me again that he's not the jealous type."
-but only ends up sighing in response. Akaashi's still trying to find ways on how to make Bokuto jealous himself, so maybe taking Sugawara's idea into consideration wouldn't be such a bad thing, after all.
