so i was on my way home the other night, and as you can imagine i was focused on other things than driving. and i notice this fly cruising around about 3 inches above my dashboard. and because of our current subject in my physics class (having to do with vectors, velocity, and acceleration) i began to wonder about how fast the fly was actually ( Read more... )

yes, the fly would probably hit the back window, and vice versa. You don't, because you have a seat that is pushing back on you with an equal and opposite force. This is actually why they tell you to wear seatbelts because if your car suddenly stops and there is no seatbelt to keep you where you are, it's going to be the windshield exerting the force on your face. now here is a question that you will have to think a little harder about, if you have a helium baloon in your car and you accelerate, will the balloon move, and which way will it move?
i love a little challenge here and there
