I had dinner tonight with my great-aunt Betty, her daughter Tara, and her son Sean tonight. My mother, Betty, and I met at my grandfather's funeral and it just so happens she has family out here and so decided to pay us a visit. I found out some wonderful things about my grandpa's side of the family and the man for whom I was named, Daniel Patrick Sullivan - my grandfather's father. Daniel was born in NY, attended Xavier College and got his law degree from NYU law school. He was also a Colonel in the Army and served during the Spanish-American war and World War I. He became the assistant attorney general of NY and was involved in many public works projects and civil rights. What was most surprising to me, though, was a picture of my great-uncle Edmund posing in a photograph of a NY Giants fullback and THE Ed Sullivan at a NY country club. Apparently, Ed Sullivan is my great-grandfather's nephew which I guess technically makes me one of his grand-nephews; he even wrote an obituary for my great-grandfather calling him "my uncle Dan". Nice huh? I'll try to get you guys pictures ASAP. Betty brought a few with her and she'll be sending them soon.
