Title: For Beta, For Worse.
Marriage guidance advice for authors and betas.

Author: calanthe_fics (Calanthe).
Rating: R for language and smutty analogies.
Genre: Serious topic partially obfuscated by crackfic-styled examples.
Essay length: 10,031 (excluding appendices).
Author’s note: This essay is not an attempt to teach those who already understand the author/beta relationship well. The pointers in here definitely fall under the heading of ‘best practice’, so no one should read this and feel scared about the journey ahead. Work at your own pace, and remember that this essay is my view; yours will undoubtedly be different. I welcome comments from authors/betas, and will update the essay as necessary.

Summary: This essay is a semi-serious look at the real issues involved in an author/beta relationship. It is intended to be informative, and to offer some guidance to those embarking on a new writer/editor partnership. Nothing in here reinvents the wheel - it’s all basic, obvious stuff that for some reason, seems to be overlooked by a surprising number of people.
