Dear RIAA,
Instead of suing the pants off of everyone downloading the two tracks off of Daft Punk's Human After All that don't completely suck, just start doing to CDs what you were apparently doing to them in the mid-90s. Many albums I bought in that time frame have a hell of a time ripping no matter what computer I use. They usually punch through, but it's such a grief-ridden affair that I try to save their rips for last when I do my bi-annual Rip-A-Thon where I aim for higher bitrates thanks to newly-available storage space.
Also, I did more shopping today. Between Rasputin and Amoeba, the two big used music chains in the bay area, your dollar really goes a long way. Between the following list and yesterday, I came in at around $70 spent on music.
Alphaville / The Singles Collection - Presumably much bigger in Europe than they ever were here, it's my humble opinion that you don't need to investigate the band much further than this disc. Maybe I'm wrong, but nothing they did outside of Big in Japan and Forever Young is worth mentioning.
Peter Gabriel / So - The One Everyone Has. I'm just lazy.
Michael Jackson / HIStory - Disc one is all greatest hits material that the only way you missed it is if you grew up in a cave; disc two is entirely new material that includes Scream, Earth Song, Stranger in Moscow and a cover of Come Together where Michael does to a Beatles song what he previously (allegedly!) only did to little boys.
Billy Joel / The Stranger - Having been born and raised in New York, I'm legally mandated to slowly but surely own the man's entire catalog.*
*Except that classical crap, what the hell is he thinking?
