Audio Slave

We all go a little mad sometimes, I just usually do it in used record stores.

The Avalanches / Since I Left You - Technically purchased last weekend, but still worth a mention. They're an Australian group that defy any attempt I make at explanation. The best I can do is say that they are the epitome of sampling, taking God knows how many samples from God knows how many more pieces of music and fusing them together into cohesive, entirely new tracks. They get bonus points for the entire disc being seamless; triple-word score for Frontier Psychiatrist and its video.

Boston / Boston - Brad Delp recently passed away. In honor of him, one of Guitar Hero's better tracks and at least two karaoke staples, I bought their first album. It's home to at least two of their best known songs, More Than a Feeling and Foreplay/Longtime.

Dead Kennedys / Frankenchrist - Yes, I know. I know. It's not an Alternative Tentacles disc, but you get to a point where the quality of the DK bootlegs you have are so rough a spot in the rest of your collection that it's only a matter of time before you crack.

Echo & The Bunnymen / Songs to Learn & Sing - I've only heard one song on this disc, The Killing Moon, but the disc was cheap enough that a blind purchase wasn't a huge risk.

The Fratellis / The Flathead EP - I'm very wary of The iPod Effect, wherein music set to those dancing silhouettes becomes the flavor of the month. This one was only $5, so I can know if I like the band without spending money on Costello Music, their new full-length album.

Jamiroquai / Travelling Without Moving - See Echo & The Bunnymen, except replace The Killing Moon with Virtual Insanity.

Also: I should note that I made sure that the 70s, 80s, 90s and today were represented in this shopping trip. I don't know, sometimes it's just fun to apply some kind of random theme when I'm not looking for anything in particular.
