After a few weeks of being positively swamped, my department is actually completely caught up. I'll be able to walk into the lead's meeting tomorrow morning and state that, and it'll be somewhat of a challenge to not look smug as all hell when I say it. We have a couple of new temps in and one of them is getting the hang of the job rather quickly, and relaying things to the other temps as we go, so I can effectivly divide up assignments and don't have to baby-sit and explain every little detail to all of them anymore. There's an older, VERY competent full-time hire who works under me, and I've occasionally thought that he should be in charge, and after a few of my miscues, I seriously considered stepping down and giving him control of the department. But now that I'm getting more comfortable running things, I sense that he's getting more comfortable with me calling the shots. And finally, none of the temps are giving me attitudes anymore...that probably has something to do with my firing the last one who did.
And today, I put down my first hundred dollars on my most recent noise violation. The grand total will end up being $265, same as my last one. As I was up there, the clerk went into her spiel about how much it's gonna cost, how long I have to pay, how I can get extensions, how warrants could be issued for my arrest, etc. I was about to stop her and say I know the drill, but then it occurred to me that she'd look and see that it was my second offense, and thereby charge me more...
And my ass hurts. Figuratively.
