Scott Pilgrim vs The World

I managed to see an advance screening of the movie at MIFF as my closing night film and even though I had to be wanded and gave up my mobile phone, and had to wait an hour an a half before the film actually started, it was all worth it. We all got a personalised opening video from Edgar Wright and crew apologising for not being able to make the Melbourne screening and thanking us for seeing his movie. That was a great personal touch from them.

Short review: It's awesome. It's so good that I'm definitely going to go watch it again. It's just fun :)

Straight from the opening shot you know that this movie will be different from anything you've seen before. This movie is FILLED with videogame and pop culture references, some of which you might need to have read the comic to understand. Straight from the comic, there are heaps of comic touches to this movie, like panels taken straight from the comic, to sound effects to multiple panels on screen. Whether you want to read the comic before the movie is up to you, but I'd recommend that you experience both.

This movie is VERY fast paced with constant scene transitions but is still understandable. The cast are all perfectly cast and look exactly like their comic counterparts. Everybody on the cast does an amazing performance, and Kieran Kulkin is hilarious. I hope this is a great stepping stone to bigger things for them all. The music is fun and I want to get the soundtrack.

There are differences between the comic and the film, as the sixth and final volume wasn't even used for the film. It's pretty faithful up until the end of volume 1, then it starts diverging.
I'll stop before I start heading into spoiler territory but I'll leave with this. If you're a geek you'll like this film. 5 out of 5.
