Mammuth: Gerard Depardieu plays a recent retiree who goes on a road trip to get the necessary documents for his pension. Great road movie where he interacts with some really wacky people and gets involved in some funny scenes. Good movie but the film grain was really bad, not too sure whether it was on purpose/cheap indie french budget. 4 out of 5.
Monsters: A NASA probe found evidence of alien life, but it crashed in Mexico, leading to a huge quarantine zone where alien life is rampant. The movie follows a photographer forced to ferry someone through this alien infested zone. Good movie with supposedly zero budget, gritty and real, similar to District 9 (before it turned into an action thriller) but without the handicam stuff. 4 out of 5.
The Juche Idea: A doco examining North Korean propoganda films and the ideas behind it. Okay movie but filled with some hilarious real footage of badly acted/shot Korean movies. 2 out of 5.
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: Fantastic movie, 5 out of 5. Will give a full write up later
And that's it for another MIFF. Overall, this year seems to be more of an average year. By that I mean there's been less suck movies, but also less outstanding movies as well. Will have a larger post MIFF roundup post later but I'll just say that MIFF needs more asian stuff :P
