Introducing: The Beards

Jun 12, 2002 19:03

Do you remember the Muffs? Well, Muffs' lead singer, Kim Shattuck is back, and she is ready to rock. Enter the Beards, punk rock inspired, and poppy beats and rock 'n' roll hooks. Not to mention some of the sassiest girl rock to come out for quite some time. Playing the role of guitarist/vocalist, Shattuck, is joined by former Cub and Buck members, Lisa Marr (vocalist/bassist) and Sherry Sollinger (drummer). Starting in 2001, as a side project for the girls, the Beards contributed their track, *(I Am Always Touched By Your) Presence*, to the *How Many Bands Does It Take to Screw up a Blondie Tribute*, released on both the Muffs' and Beards label, Sympathy for the Record Industry. With the success of such a track, the Beards entered the studio. This past April, the all-female trio released their debut, full-length album, *Funtown*. Though some of the Muffs' were split on this release, *Funtown* was met with acclaim. Also, the CD itself contained a CD-ROM featuring 11 Beards' videos, directed by numerous young directing talents. With an upcoming tour, to be expected later this year, it seems the Beards are on their way up. Fans and critics alike can only hope for more from this punk-pop gem of a band.
