what the hell is this drink called?
i have no idea what the hell to call this drink and am open to suggestions. its like a margarita in makeup, only i’ve changed it up a little bit by combining some outstanding tequila with this wonderful 30 yrd old bottle of mezcal.
mezcal is made by taking the hearts of agave plants and first slow-roasting them in a pit for several days. this gives the usquebae this dominatingly woodsy flavour which is very rustic and dinstinctive. i find it adds this stunning complexity to mixt drinks, adding a bassline that is extremely unique. i find it goes really well with a grapefruit flavour, and KC picked up a bottle of Mexican Squirt from the corner grocery while she was out.

30ml mezcal
30ml GOOD tequila (no cuervo crap)
30ml triple sec
juice from ¼ of the biggest fucking lime i have ever seen
Squirt!
combine mezcal, tequila, triple sec and lime juice in the shaker. 20 seconds of a shake. serve in a chilled glass and top it off with some Squirt and a lime wedge.
really refreshing drink. you expect it to be a margarita, but then you get that smoke blast from the mezcal, which i am very nearly out of. this is not a good development. i got the original bottle from the funhouse over there in Piedmont. sponge and i may have to do some more spelunking here in that cave that is his rec room, see if we can unearth another gem like this. we found lots of good stuff down there, but this mezcal has definitely been the star attraction.
