Win/Win

I’ve decided to begin actively writing on here again. Not to keep documentation of my daily life, although that may occur from time to time, but to document my thoughts. By doing so, perhaps I may be able to be engaged by someone in conversation that will lead to a more defined thought pattern ( Read more... )

Hey it's Matt Batina, I just started writing here again not too long ago. Add me in sometime.

I thought I'd comment on your most recent entry as those topics have been discussed time and again in some of my classes and it's a real thing for everyone.

Globalization is such a complex issue. Institutions that humans have made in life continue to stay with little change because there is almost no effort make changes due to money and power relationships. A general example concerns the trade relationships that exist between developing and developed countries. Many developing countries cannot place tariffs on developed countries because they will get shut out of the market. Every poor country is in debt and will continue to be as long as this and other market practices continue. The World Trade Organization also cuts developing countries' loans if they don't trade.

The very competitive attitude makes my stomach turn too. Everyone brings about some type of change to one another and negative changes are multiplied when we compete at extreme levels. I like to think that there comes a point where you get more than what you are competing for and many people end up with losses. Everything from telecommunications, to automobiles and a vast network of highways, and also really advanced trade systems should have everyone realizing that we live in a highly interconnected world. How much distance is produced by some of these things is very interesting too.

The issue of Hispanics, other minorities (I place Hispanics first because their increase in population outweighs other minorities in most circumstances) and the labor force in America does not look like how people play it out to be at all. Many of the jobs occupied by the influx of Hispanics are minimum wage jobs, mostly in the agricultural and services sectors. This is pretty pronounced in the west (excluding inland northwestern states like Montana and Wyoming), especially California but also on the east coast as well. I also acknowledge that there are highly educated Hispanics entering this country who are placing themselves in successful jobs relative to the positions they would be working in their home countries. I think that as more Hispanics and other minorities become a part of the United States population, their education level will continue to increase and more white collar positions will be assumed by them; Hispanics, especially. A large number of caucasians are very afraid of this. Anyhow I think this will happen quite successfully with Hispanics for many reasons, two of which are Hispanics' incredible work ethic and strong family values. I look at my family and it would be amazing if we all gathered together often but it's just not that way.

I think that we would get along with each other much better if we took time to understand each others' lifestyles. There is this fear of other races by people that really needs to go out the door. I see this fear often in western PA. I'll try hard not to make a generalization here but so many people in western PA are incredibly conservative. Several people that I come across in a day exclude minorities somehow and I see it with students that treat a few of my professors differently. When I was in California I had a great time because there was so much diversity around me. The kind of diversity that I wouldn't find around here unless I went to Oakland while college is in.

It's an interesting point that you make about how you feel that the new minority will become individuals of single races. I think it's a possibility too.

I could go on and on about this, haha.

I'm glad you responded and I added you. I too could go on about the topic for quite some time.
