Americans Have Fewer Friends Outside the Family, Duke Study Shows. It compared data from 1985 and 2004 and found that the mean number of people with whom Americans can discuss matters important to them dropped by nearly one-third, from 2.94 people in 1985 to 2.08 in 2004. [I think I would atrophy if I only had 2.08 people to discuss my stuff with.] I am truly blessed.

From the Teeth of Angels. The basic premise is that death can take the form of anyone you know and if he likes you, you die well, but if he doesn't, you suffer. It was good, but I definitely think his writing has gotten better since 1995 as I do read his
