Summary: Found hanging onto the windowsill by his fingertips with the intention of robbing the place, Jongin isn’t sure how to explain the situation he’s in and he doesn’t fancy the idea of going to jail, and the guy who found him is kind of cute so Jongin blurts the first thing that pops in this head. “…You wanna make out?”
Jongin was always prone to bad luck, but now he sincerely the universe had some sort of grudge against him.
“Oh, h-hey…,” Jongin said awkwardly, fear rooting within himself as fierce eyes stared him down. He never thought he’d run into the nameless man who the owned the apartment he tried to rob after the attempt.
He was really hoping he could just put it all behind him and never think of it again. Apparently the universe had other plans.
“Since this is our second time meeting, I’m expecting you to introduce yourself,” the shorter man said, looking expectantly down at Jongin who anxiously squirmed in his seat, ignoring his friend who stared questioningly between them.
“Er, I don’t know if it’s really necessary-”
“Or I could just call the cops right now if you’d like.”
“Kim Jongin,” Jongin blurted out at the mention of the authorities. “Please, you can do whatever you want, but please do not call the police on me.”
Kyungsoo noticed the sudden look in alarm the other student’s expression as he watched silently. Taking another look at the dark skinned hooligan, he looked completely clumsy and harmless. How did this person decide he wanted to be a criminal? And a failure of one at that…
“Well, Kim Jongin, I am Do Kyungsoo. You broke into my apartment last week,” Kyungsoo said, watching in amusement as the boy named Jongin chewed on his lip uncomfortably and the other boy widen suddenly, gulping.
Kyungsoo narrowed his eyes at the other nameless student.
“You knew about it, didn’t you?” he guessed unquestioningly, no longer feeling that amused.
“That’s Sehun and it was his idea!” Jongin squeaked, pointing a finger at his friend he just ratted out.
“Dude! I wasn’t even serious to begin with!” Sehun hissed, glaring at his idiot friend. He looked up at the glaring Kyungsoo earnestly, trying not to show any anxiousness. “Listen, I had nothing to do with this idiot’s plan, alright? I was nowhere near your place when he decided to break in.”
Jongin scoffed as he rolled his eyes at his friend’s words. “Traitor,” he grumbled under his breath.
Kyungsoo pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. “I don’t care if he was part of it since you’re the one who broke in, alright? Look, I’m here because you broke a valuable in my home and I’m demanding sufficient payment for it.”
Jongin froze, an ugly feeling taking root in his stomach as he recalled what happened that night. It’s true, he did break something valuable. Shit, he broke the urn in the guy’s home and it was obviously sentimental.
Bow his head, Jongin looked at Kyungsoo apologetically. “I’m really, truly sorry for breaking your urn. I’ll pay to replace it and then we can move on from this disaster,” he negotiated, digging into his pocket to pull out his wallet.
Except Kyungsoo wasn’t satisfied. “That won’t do,” he said, making Jongin pause, and continued with the excuse Baekhyun had told him to say. “That vase was a family heirloom and a highly expensive one. It can’t be replaced and I highly doubt you could offer me a sufficient amount for it seeing as you were breaking into my home for a reason. And in addition to all of that, you also proceeded to sexually assault me.”
Sehun, who’d been sipping his water, began hacking violently at the sudden mention of sexual assault. “You what?!” he shrieked at Jongin who looked equally as stunned.
“I didn’t-what are you-what?” Jongin squeezed, feeling blood rush to his face. He probably looked like a tomato, but that was hardly an issue.
“You asked to make out with me.”
“That’s hardly counts as sexual assault and I didn’t mean it!”
“Dude, what the hell were you thinking?” Sehun muttered, shaking his head in disbelief as he leaned back in his chair.
Kyungsoo rolled his eyes. “It was an unwelcome advance on me and I’m sure the police would definitely count it as harassment.”
Kyungsoo felt a certain satisfaction in watching Jongin slump guiltily and gnawing on his lip as he tried to think of something he could do for the other. Sighing in defeat, Jongin put his wallet away. “What should I do?”
“Well, you have a debt to repay, seeing as how I didn’t call the police on your ass like I should have,” Kyungsoo began, holding up one finger. “And then you broke the vase that held my brother’s ashes.” Kyungsoo bit back an amused smirk upon seeing the nauseated look on Jongin’s face. “And in addition, you somehow managed to fuck up the lock on the window when you broke in.”
Jongin’s face furrowed in puzzlement. “How did I break it when-”
“I don’t know, but you somehow did it now shut up,” Kyungsoo snapped, cutting Jongin off in order to cover his bluff. The lock didn’t really break but he needed leverage.
“I’m sorry,” Jongin mumbled again, not sure what else he could say.
“As it turns out,” Kyungsoo began, his tone that of a negotiator’s. “I’m in need of an assistant and housekeeper, and you need to repay me and have no way of doing so. I propose that you come work for me for free until your debt is repaid.”
Both young men gaped at Kyungsoo like the man had grown a second head.
“You want me to work for you?” Jongin choked unbelievably.
“That’s what I said, wasn’t it?” Kyungsoo spat, looking unimpressed by the moron’s inability to comprehend anything he was saying. Wasn’t he fluent in Korean?
“Yeah but-,” Jongin began to argue, but was cut off by Sehun.
“Like you said, mister, he broke into your apartment. To steal from you. Why would you invite him into your home?” It was a reasonable concern and Sehun seriously thought this Kyungsoo guy was legit.
“Yeah, why?” Jongin questioned second, looking at Kyungsoo with interest.
Kyungsoo sighed heavily, his patience wearing thin arguing back and forth with the kids. “Like I said,” he voiced with an authority tone. “I’m in need of an assistant for cheap, and since you owe me you’d be working for free-don’t give me that look, you thief-I’m not worried that you’d take anything. I work from home and would be keeping an eye on you the entire time. Now I think this is a suitable offer; if I were you, I’d take it otherwise you’ll be explaining your actions to the authorities.”
Jongin gnawed on his lip as he helplessly try to think up an excuse. “But, I’m a student,” he countered. “I have a pretty full schedule, I wouldn’t really have time.”
“You say that like I'm supposed to give a fuck.”
And looking at the way Kyungsoo looked down on him with great displeasure like there was a stench in the air, he really did not seem to give any fucks.
Jongin sighed in defeat. Obviously there was no getting out of this bind. As if he didn’t have enough to worry about already, now he had to add to the load of stress he already had. “When do I start?” he asked sullenly, bowing his head.
Kyungsoo dug in his wallet, pulling out a business card and placing it on the table in front of Jongin. “My email is there, please do not call. I won’t answer. Send me your timetable so I can work around your schedule.”
Jongin pocketed the business card, avoiding Kyungsoo’s hardened stare. “Anything else I can do for you?”
Kyungsoo narrowed his eyes at Jongin’s tone, folding his arms once more. “No, that’s all. I don’t wish to put up with your incompetence anymore.”
Kyungsoo doesn’t wait for a response as he turned on his heel and sauntered his way back across the restaurant to Baekhyun who’d been watching the scene unfold with a sinister smirk on his face.
“How’d it go?” Baekhyun sang, seeming to enjoy watching the encounter.
Kyungsoo smirked in return. “That kid is going to regret ever climbing through my window that night.”
Baekhyun cackled, clapping his hands together gleefully. “Oh this will be so much fun!”
Kyungsoo leaned back in his seat, glancing over his food that had arrived while he’d been confronting the student named Jongin. He frowned. “I almost regret hiring him as an assistant,” he mumbled, barely audible to his friend.
Baekhyun looked at him, puzzled. “Why?”
“He seems so stupid.”
Baekhyun snorted, rolling his eyes. “Everyone seems stupid to you. Even me, I might add.”
Kyungsoo couldn’t make sense of Baekhyun sometimes. “But you are stupid,” he said finally, before casting the issue to the back of his brain. He refused to ponder over the matter any further. “Let’s go shopping after this. I need to get another vase for Ryeowook.”
Across the room after Kyungsoo left the two university students, Jongin groaned in frustration, melting over the table. “I’m doomed, Sehun. Fucking doomed.”
And Sehun had to agree. “You’re doomed,” he simply said, taking a bite of his sandwich.
Jongin glared. “Thanks for the support.”
“You made your bed,” Sehun said matter of fact, shrugging his shoulders. “Now you get to lie in it.”
Jongin rolled his eyes. “I really don’t want to do this…,” he grumbled unhappily, his appetite pretty much now nonexistent.
Sehun grunted. He studied his friend for a few moments before asking curiously, “Did you really try to make out with him?”
Jongin flushed embarrassedly. “Well, I didn’t try to but I sort of…suggested it? He asked why I was there and I didn’t want him to call the police, so I just blurted the first excuse that came to mind.”
Sehun snorted. “You’re a piece of work, Kim Jongin.”
Jongin huffed, offended.
“Whatever,” Sehun continued. “At least that gave me a distraction from my own issues.”
Jongin, like he promised, didn’t press further on Sehun’s matter despite his curiosity. Besides, he had his own issues to worry about now, like how he was going to get through working for Do Kyungsoo without being murdered.
The business card tucked in his pocket was like a weighted reminder and Jongin felt distanced from reality for the rest of the day. That evening, with much reluctance, he emailed the notorious Do Kyungsoo.
Maybe he changed his mind.
Sehun suddenly burst out laughing, "You're going to be his maid!"
