Unexpected Encounters (3/?): A Familiar Face
Pairing(s): kaisoo, side!hunhan
Genre: Romance, Humor, Drama, Fiction
Summary: Found hanging onto the windowsill by his fingertips with the intention of robbing the place, Jongin isn’t sure how to explain the situation he’s in and he doesn’t fancy the idea of going to jail, and the guy who found him is kind of cute so Jongin blurts the first thing that pops in this head. “…You wanna make out?”

Kyungsoo considered himself lucky the asshole he assumed was trying to break in left when he did otherwise Kyungsoo would have had a murder charge on his head, but he was livid beyond measure. His hands were trembling with rage as he plucked up the shards of the broken urn off the floor and into the trash, and carefully brushed the scattered ashes into a bowl.

He hoped his older brother wasn’t angry about the incident from beyond the grave, but it wasn’t his fault. Ryeowook could get his revenge on the idiot that knocked him over.

Kyungsoo made sure to lock his bedroom window before he went back to bed. While he tossed and turned beneath the covers, his thoughts remained on the (ugly) dark-skinned burglar and (not) handsomely tall demeanor until he drifted off to sleep.

The remainder of the week continued as it always with him resting in his swivel chair as he poured over mountains of books and fingers dancing over the keyboard as he typed quickly, glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. He made a living as a professional translator, choosing against working with people and instead translated novels, newspaper articles, and textbooks.

Thankfully there were no more repeats of the eventful night earlier in the week and Kyungsoo chose to ignore the lingering sensation of anticipation every time he looked in the direction of the window.

Kyungsoo didn’t leave his apartment very often unless it was for buying groceries. He did at least succumb to his friend’s insistent argument to hang out on the weekends, usually a Sunday, despite Kyungsoo’s wishes to sleep in.

"Soo! Kyungsoo-yah! Get out of that fucking bed! I need to rub something in your face!"
Kyungsoo groaned and hid his face in his pillow, trying to block at the annoying yelling of his best friend. Fuck, it was a Sunday and all he wanted to do was sleep in super late. He thoroughly regretted giving the intrusive idiot a key to his place.

“Kyungsoo!” his friend yelled insistently from the other side of Kyungsoo’s closed bedroom door.

“Fuck, what the hell do you want, asshat!?” Kyungsoo finally screamed from underneath his blankets, thoroughly irritated.

Without waiting for permission to entered, Baekhyun burst through the door, clad in his black blouse with shiny sequins and hot pink ripped jeans, and well, pink everything, and all dolled up with his eyeliner on point and a pink sparkly headband. Ah, so it’s one of those days, Kyungsoo thought to himself.

"I'm fucking queer, Soo! I'm a flaming homosexual and I just wanted to make that very clear to you!"

“…You're an idiot.”

Baekhyun ignored him, and continued yelling, “Kyungsoo, accept me for who I am!”
Kyungsoo rolled his eyes at his friend’s idiocy, forcing himself out of the warmth of his bed. “For some stupid reason I do, and I told you this three years ago.”

“I know, but I needed to throw my gay in your face! Be queer with me!”

“Aren't I already? And fuck, would you stop screaming!” Kyungsoo growled before punching Baekhyun’s arms repeatedly until the man was begging him to stop.

“Stop trying to kill me! The bruises won't go with my outfit”

“I think the bruises would be an improvement.”

“Kyungsoo, you’re so mean!” Baekhyun whined loudly, flinging himself on his friend’s bed.

Kyungsoo slapped his idiot friend’s butt, very hard and making the other man yelp in surprise, before literally pushing him onto the floor. “Why, of all days, did you come here?
You should have gone to Chanyeol’s,” Kyungsoo grumbled, crossing his arms in disdain.

Fake sniffling, Baekhyun rubbed his right elbow which happened to make contact with the hard floor after the fall. “He has that sport thing today, you know that."

"Baekhyun, he plays basketball. It’s called basketball."

"Yeah, that. Do the thing, win the points, and all that jazz. Anyway it doesn’t matter, I got lonely."

“At ten in the morning?”

“Yes. The sun’s out and ready to play, and you’re in bed wasting your life-”

“I’m not wasting my life-”

“You’re wasting your life!”

Kyungsoo sighed and reached for his bat beside his bed (he'd made it a habit to sleep with it near him ever since that incident with the idiot outside his window), and suddenly Baekhyun jumped to his feet in alarm.

“Kyungsoo, do you really think it’s worth it to kill me and go to prison?!” Baekhyun squeaked, nervously looking at his friend with the bat in his hand.

Quirking his eyebrow, Kyungsoo looks to his friend with a skeptical look. “Stop, you’re making a fool of yourself. I’m just moving this out of the way.” Kyungsoo takes the bat and tucks it away in his closet. It was just cluttering his space anyway and he really disliked the angle it was sitting at.

“Oh,” Baekhyun says, calming down. “Well in that case, get some clothes on-”

“Clearly I am already wearing clothes,” Kyungsoo counters, pointing at his Frozen pajama pants.

“No,” Baekhyun counters, “I mean real clothes. I want to go shopping or something today and get food. I’m hungry.”

“You’re so demanding.”

“Kyungsoo, I demand you take me on a date!”

Kyungsoo nearly choked, a garbled sound escaping his throat while he stared at Baekhyun wide eyed like his friend had grown a second head. “Are you drunk?”

Baekhyun sighed dramatically, exasperated. “Not this particular morning, but I’m very bored and you know how annoyingly persistent I am, so you best get dressed and go out with me.”

“But-”

“I repeat, I’m very annoying and persistent!”

“Fine! For fuck’s sake!”

Baekhyun smiled, proud of his accomplishment. “Yay! Kyungsoo’s going to be my boyfriend today!”

“Like I’d date someone as annoying as you.”

Baekhyun smirked as he crossed his arms, “But you did once upon a time, so the joke's on you!"

“We broke up because you met Chanyeol, dumbass.”

“Let me pick out your outfit.”

“No.”

“Please? You’re just going to wear black, as usual, even though you have colored clothes in the back of your closet. It's like your clothes represent your sexuality,” Baekhyun said as he made his way to Kyungsoo’s closet, opening the doors swiftly.

“And that doesn't even make sense,” Kyungsoo muttered.

"Jeez, take a joke, Soo."

Kyungsoo sighed and rolled his eyes in annoyance. "I like my black clothes," he said weakly.
“And you look great in them, but I want to dress you differently today.”

Kyungsoo didn’t bother to argue and sat patiently on the bed, waiting for the worst. He frowned when he heard Baekhyun giggling to himself as he picked through his closet.

“I think we should make you look very gay today.”

“What?” Kyungsoo’s head whipped around, startled.

“And you can say you’re not gay all you want, I’m still going to dress you the way I want.
See? You have these skinny jeans here that would complement your legs, which by the way I don’t know why you don’t wear these, they’re gorgeous. And you have this nice sweater here.”

“I don’t understand how that would make me look-”

“And I got this bowtie here,” Baekhyun added, whipping out a blue bowtie with yellow stripes from his back pocket.

Kyungsoo’s eye twitched in irritation. “You planned this, didn’t you?” he said expectantly.
Baekhyun winked, then threw the clothes at Kyungsoo before running out of the room.

"And I'm not gay, I'm bi!" Kyungsoo added, yelling at the closed door knowing full well Baekhyun was waiting on the other side. "Jesus, that is seriously getting old now..."

Kyungsoo shrugged on the clothes not wanting to deal with a tantrum from Baekhyun if he didn’t comply, and pulled out a pair of converse from his closet which he hadn’t worn in a while. Taking a quick glance in the mirror. Damn he looked good, if he did say so himself.
Why didn’t he dress this nice more often?

Because it takes too much effort, he reminded himself as he fiddled with the bowtie. It was the only part of the outfit he didn’t quite care for.

He grabbed his wallet off his desk before leaving his room, meeting Baekhyun in the kitchen who was drinking a glass of water and gazing disapprovingly at the growing pile of dirty dishes in the sink. “Your place is disgusting. Do you ever clean?”

“When there’s no more clean dishes or I can’t walk.”

Baekhyun looked peeved. “Well this is your last clean glass and I nearly killed myself over your stacks of books. It’s time to clean.”

“Where are you planning on dragging me first?” Kyungsoo asked, ignoring his friend’s words, reaching into a cabinet and taking his vitamins.

“I’m pretty hungry, so I was thinking about grabbing lunch first and then we can go shopping, or maybe hit a strip club…,” Baekhyun hummed in thought.

“Would Chanyeol be okay with you going to a strip club with someone other than himself?”
Baekhyun shrugged. “What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him…”

Kyungsoo made a noise in disapproval. “Well, I would prefer it if we didn’t go to a strip club, so let’s go with lunch right now until we decide what to do.”

“Okay, but I’m choosing where we go! There’s this place I found that would accommodate my eating habits and I want to give a try,” Baekhyun spouted excitedly, being his usual bubbly self that threatened to give Kyungsoo whiplash.

Kyungsoo snorted, “An all you can eat buffet?”

Baekhyun pouted. “Stop being mean. Chanyeol and I turned a new lead and decided to take better care of our bodies.”

It was Kyungsoo’s turn to frown. “So we’re going to eat something healthy?”

“Yes, and it will be a nice change from the instant ramen and pizza you usually stuff gorge with.”

“I don’t gorge myself. I eat less than you do, you pig.”

“Oh stop being a downer.”

Kyungsoo decided to let it go and they two left Kyungsoo’s nice apartment, Baekhyun rocking on his feet to the music in the elevator. The place where Baekhyun was dragging him to wasn’t so far from his apartment and it was a close to the elementary school Baekhyun tutored at.

Kyungsoo couldn’t understand why his friend wanted to work in a place filled with germ infested little people. For the short while he and Baekhyun had dated several years ago, he’d found out Baekhyun loved children and thought they were cute, while Kyungsoo just found them insanely annoying. The weirdo.

As it turned out, the restaurant wasn’t very big and wasn’t very busy that afternoon, and the two didn’t have a difficult time finding the table. Surprisingly even the food looked edible.

“Kyungsoo, you’re paying for me,” Baekhyun said as he looked over his menu, earning a frown from his friend.

“Pay for yourself, moocher.”

“No because you’re my date. You pay.”

“Excuse you,” Kyungsoo hissed, “But you dragged me out on this so-called date, therefore you should pay.”

Baekhyun rolled his eyes. “How about you pay and I’ll cover the tip?” he suggested, hoping to please the other.

Kyungsoo sighed, but decided not to argue.

They sat and they visited for a while, conversation mostly consisting of Baekhyun jabbering about his students and the dinner Chanyeol had cooked for him. Everything was going smoothly until Kyungsoo noticed a pair of guys walk into the restaurant and sit themselves in the corner, one of which was sporting a Korea National University of Arts sweatshirt.

Kyungsoo’s eyes narrowed at the familiar dark-skinned boy carrying on a conversation with his weirdly pale friend.

Baekhyun noticed Kyungsoo wasn’t paying attention to him anymore and paused midsentence, looking curiously at his friend. Following his eyes, he slowly turned around and spotted the pair of guys in the corner.

He smirked.

“Has one of those Uni kids caught your eye, Mr. Do? I didn’t know you were into younger guys-” he asked teasingly, eyes twinkling playfully.

Kyungsoo quickly tore his eyes from the asshole kid, shaking his head. “Nope,” he said with a popping of his lips. “Shut up, shit face.”

Baekhyun scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Don’t lie. You were staring quite intently over there,” he continued.

Kyungsoo huffed in disdain. “I wasn’t-”

“Kyungsoo.”

“Okay, maybe I was, but not for the reason you’re thinking,” he spat, glaring across the room once again.

Baekhyun smiled, pleased with himself. “And for what reason are you so infatuated with that corner of the room?”

“The dark kid broke into my apartment.”

Baekhyun’s jaw dropped, his eyes widening enough to rival Kyungsoo’s as he stared at his friend is appalled surprise. “I’m sorry, what?”

Kyungsoo looked pointedly at Baekhyun, not wishing to repeat himself.

Thankfully Baekhyun caught on and leaned forward. “You’re apartment got broken into and that’s the guy who broke in?”

“Yup.”

“Wow, and he’s still alive?”

“Surprisingly.”

Baekhyun shook his head slowly in disbelief. “Okay, so why didn’t you tell me this happened? Seriously, Kyungsoo, what if you’d gotten hurt? Did he try to hurt you?!”

Kyungsoo kicked Baekhyun under the table. “Would be quiet, please?”

“Kyungsoo, answer the question,” Baekhyun snapped, unsually serious for him.

Kyungsoo shook his head, replying, “No, he didn’t try to hurt me. More accurately, he was actually really clumsy for a burglar. Nearly pissed himself.”

“Oh, okay,” Baekhyun said, feeling a little better. He knew Kyungsoo was capable of taking care of himself, but he was still concerned. “When did this happen?”

“Monday night.”

“I wish you would’ve told me…,” Baekhyun whined, jutting his pink lips in a pout.

Kyungsoo shrugged, not too concerned about the ordeal. “I didn’t feel it was necessary. The idiot didn’t take anything and nearly fell to his death trying to climb in through the window.”

Baekhyun studied his friend, noticing a slump in Kyungsoo’s shoulders. There was still something else he wasn’t sharing. “What else happened?”

“Nothing.”

“Kyungsoo, please tell me.”

Kyungsoo frowned, looking away from Baekhyun to stare across restaurant at the two guys. “He knocked over and broke Ryeowook’s urn.”

Baekhyun huffed angrily, eyes narrowing distastefully. “That asshole. How dare he? Shit, now I’m really surprised he’s still alive. Wait,” he paused, staring seriously at Kyungsoo again. “You’re not going to murder him, are you? I mean, I would be all for it, but you don’t need prison time…”

“I’m not that stupid.”

The two fell into silence, Baekhyun tapping his nails against the tabletop and Kyungsoo fiddling with his phone.

“Hey,” Baekhyun said, poking Kyungsoo’s hand. “You should make him pay.”

Kyungsoo quirked his eyebrow in question. “What do you mean?” he asked.

“I mean,” Baekhyun replied, “Make him do something to make up for being a douche and breaking in. Tell him he needs to pay for the damages he caused.”

Kyungsoo frowned. “It was just a broken vase.”

Baekhyun rolled his eyes. “Yeah, but you could play it up and give him some sob story. Tell him the vase belonged to your dead grandmother, and obviously it held your brother, and say he busted the lock on your window. Or something like that!”

Kyungsoo bit his lip as he thought about it. “I don’t know what I would ask for though. I don’t need money and college students are broke, which is probably why we tried breaking in in the first place.”

Baekhyun leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs as he thought some more. Then his clucked his tongue and snapped his finger, eyes shining. “You could get him to clean your pigsty of a home and clean your place. Make him errands for you until he pays back his debt.”

Kyungsoo pursed his lips and he pondered the idea. He wasn’t sure about inviting a burglar into his home who attempted to steal from him once before, but then again he never left his apartment and would be able to keep an eye on his constantly.

Alright, then.

Kyungsoo rose from the table, ignoring the pleased look on Baekhyun’s face, and sauntered over to the corner of the restaurant. He approached the table, stopping right in front of the dark skinned student, crossing his arms and straightening his form to seem more intimidating.

The familiar attractive eyes widened in response to his presence, the alarmed shock in the man’s expression being found amusing to Kyungsoo who held back a laugh.

“Oh fuck,” the student said and his pale friend looked between them in confusion.
Kyungsoo smirked at the kid, a peculiar excitement bubbling within his stomach.

“Fancy meeting you here, asshole.”
