Turns out that I DO ACTUALLY HAVE TO DO FUCKTONS OF HOMEWORK TO PASS YEAR 10 and so unfortunately, my education is once again higher priority than slash. :( But the holdiays are soon, bringing with them an abundance of not-late updates :D Thank you to whoever's still reading, you have incredible amounts of patience to put up with my bullshit. <3

As it turns out, Spencer is real, and he also knows nothing about the pregnancy. Jon pulls Ryan aside and tells him this after Ryan and Spencer are done reuniting, tells him that he told Spencer the reason he wanted him to come to Las Vegas on such short notice was that he and Ryan were getting engaged, and he wanted to give Ryan a sort of surprise present. Spencer paid for his flight, because he's an awesome friend and knows Ryan has next to no money, and even brought them a fucking engagement gift.

"It's not much," he apologises. "I didn't really have much time to get you guys anything, but blame Jon. He pretty much called me at two in the morning and told me to pack my bags, the plane was leaving in half an hour." He produces a large box from the depths of his suitcase and hands it to Ryan. It's wrapped (immaculately, Spencer has OCD with the way he has to wrap presents perfectly) in blue paper, with black ribbon. There's a card, too, and Spencer scribbled it out in the airport terminal, but Ryan knows he means every word.

The present is a Wii, complete with three games. Ryan threatens to return it to the store, because it had to cost close to four hundred dollars, but Spencer just tells him it's Ryan's birthday and Christmas presents for the next seven years, even though they all know he won't turn down an opportunity to buy Ryan presents.

"You're an idiot," Ryan tells him affectionately, as he hugs Spencer again.

"Yeah, yeah. Now, are we gonna christen this thing or not?"

Jon sets up the Wii, with Spencer helpfully floating in the background and Ryan on the couch, watching. Jon works as a computer guy, Ryan reasons, and since that makes Jon an expert at doing these kinds of things, there's no point in dipping his toes into the world of strange new technology himself. Spencer just calls Ryan lazy, although he's not really doing much either.

Ryan kisses Jon on the cheek when he finishes hooking up the Wii (which takes all of like, five minutes) and hands Ryan a Wii remote. It's white and sleek, light in his hand. Spencer says he'll sit out for this round and throws Jon the remote from where he's getting a beer from the fridge in the kitchen, then goes and sits on the couch with his drink.

Playing the Wii is harder than it looks. At least to Ryan, who is losing to Jon at virtual tennis. Again. He's only won once, and that was because Jon accidentally tripped over a footstool and nearly broke his leg, and while he was down, Ryan just swung the remote around like a crazy man and connected with the ball enough that he won. Oh yeah. Sweet victory. Spencer, who had helped Jon up from the floor, insisted that Ryan cheated, to which Ryan retorted, "Shut up, I'm pregnant, I'm allowed to cheat as much as I want. Another game, Jon?" And Spencer had gone kind of pale and repeated, "You're pregnant?"

This leads to a serious discussion at the kitchen table. Jon's gone to have a shower because this is definitely a best friend's thing. Ryan needs to tell Spencer, and he doesn't need Jon there right now.

"Why didn't you tell me? We're best friends, shouldn't you tell me things like this?" asks Spencer. His mouth sets in a straight line and Ryan cringes a little.

"I was going to tell you," he mumbles.

"Oh, yeah? And when was that?" Spencer crosses his arms and Ryan doesn't look him in the eyes as he answers.

"I don't know. I... no one knows, other than you and Jon. Not my parents, not any of the people at work..."

"So I guess I should feel lucky you accidentally let it slip, then." Spencer's tone is icy.

"Spencer. I was going to tell you. It's not as if I could keep it from you."

"Damn straight," says Spencer, and usually when he's saying this it's in a lighthearted way. There's no trace of humour now.

Neither of them speak for a while and the silence is so guilty on Ryan's part that he feels like Spencer is an angry parent and Ryan should be thinking of what he's done wrong.

Spencer sighs. "Ryan, I don't know why you'd just keep something that big from me."

" I don't know!" says Ryan. He feels tears, actual fucking tears prickling at his eyelids, and he blinks hard. "I just. I suppose I thought that if I didn't tell anyone, the stupid thing would go away." Spencer's staring at him. "But it hasn't," Ryan clarifies, "So I guess I'm stuck with it."

"So you didn't want it?" asks Spencer. He's sounding less like a stern parent now and more like a concerned mother. This means he's close to forgiving Ryan.

"No, of course not," says Ryan. "You know I hate kids, Spence. I never wanted kids. But Jon... he looked at me like I was a fucking alien when I suggested abortion. He said he'd never let me do that to our child, and I don't know what he'd do if I went through with it... I couldn't do it." Ryan's looking at the table to hide his watery eyes. Damn hormones.

Spencer purses his lips, and Ryan knows he's going to have a talk to Jon later.

"How far along are you?" he asks, and Ryan realizes it's Spencer's way of forgiving him, accepting the situation.

"I don't know. About seven weeks, I think," says Ryan. "Ask Jon, he'll know. He's probably been tracking the thing's existence since the first ultrasound."

"You had an ultrasound?" asks Spencer, interested, and Ryan nods.

"Where are the scans?"

"Jon's house. I didn't want them."

Spencer frowns, but he doesn't say anything about the lack of Ryan's involvement in the pregnancy.

"Make sure he brings them here. I want to look at them," he says.

The mention of Jon's house and Ryan's house makes Ryan belatedly remember about the whole 'apartment thing'.

"I need a favour," he tells Spencer.
