whoa. BPAL! No really, this MUST be posted about

Sep 26, 2007 21:01

Vaguely recalled this morning that the full moon was happening soon, so I headed over to the lab looking for updates, and sure enough, it was posted this morning! Two words: *DROOL* and *whimper*. The first is because both Beaver Moon and Scorpio 2007 sound very appealing to me (especially the first!). And some of the new GC scents sound yummy as well; I'd love to try Kill-Devil and Plunder. The *whimper* is because I haven't bought any Halloweenies yet, and I was hoping to do that soon. Might have to put that off a bit more for the lunacies. Think I could pass up Scorpio 2007, maybe get an imp in a decant, but I really think I need Beaver Moon. The description makes me giggle. :D

In other BPALy news, wylddancer was offering mystery imp packs on sinandsalvation for the low low price of $22, and I figured what the heck? The price is VERY reasonable; $20 is my "can spend without worrying about it too much" limit; and while I'm building up a nice collection of imps, I'm still new enough that it's not likely I'd get repeats. Plus I hadn't gotten any packages in the mail for a bit, and this is wrong. Packages in the mail are a requirement for my happiness and sanity. *nods*

So I commented with: I'm interested! I'm still new enough to BPAL that I don't have a wish list yet, but I like foodie scents and earthy/incense scents. My four favorite scents out of the one's I've tried so far are Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo, Tezcatlipoca, Crossroads, and Dragon's Heart. I don't like really heavy floral scents. Lighter floral scents are okay, though.

This was on Sunday that I commented and paid for the pack. The package arrived today. WHOA. Good package!

  • BPAL imps
    • Centzon Totochtin (Excolo/GC) - Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood.
    • Sacred Whore of Babylon (Excolo/GC) - An ancient formula that inspires unrepentant decadence, lechery and debauch.
    • 13 (October 2006 reformulation) (LE) - cocoa and vanilla beans, Mysore sandalwood, star fruit, orange rind, red amber, fig leaf, mimosa, rooibos tea, bourbon geranium, rose otto, nutmeg, and lavender. (The label said "decanted March 2007", so it wasn't entirely clear which version this was, but I gave it a sniff and by the scent I'm almost positive it's the October 2006 one).
    • Monster Bait: Closet (LE) - Bourbon blackberry buttercream over red velvet cake.
    • Les Infortunes De La Vertu (Sin & Salvation/GC) - A pain-tinged, pleasure-soaked blend of leather, oakmoss, orange blossom, amber, and rose with a breath of virginal French florals and a hint of austere monastic penitential incense.
    • Magus (Bewitching Brews/GC): An ancient blend, swollen with arcane power: galangal, high john essence, frankincense, cedar, and sandalwood.
    • Blood Moon '05 (A Little Lunancy/LE): The feral scent of the heat of the chase, deep woods, undulating musks, brushed by forest herbs, crushed grains, and touched by blood-dimmed lunar oils.
    • Dragon's Reverie (Ars Draconis/GC): Opium-laced dreams of flame, plunder, power and fury: dragon’s blood resin, poppy, amber and ylang ylang.
    • Belle Epogue (Bewitching Brews/GC): Sweet opium, Lily of the Valley, vanilla, mandarin and red sandalwood.
    • Ace of Pentacles (Tarot Oils/Discontinued): Black pine, patchouli, honeysuckle, oakmoss, almond and other soft earthen tones.
  • Non-BPAL perfume samples
    • Wicked Witch (woobiebath.com) - Such a poor, misunderstood, wicked witch she is, too. This is a sweet and delightful blend of snappy, spicy ginger.
    • Breakfast in Hollywood (arcanasoaps.com) - Juicy pink grapefruit shimmies up against a bevy of California citrus fruits, sparkling champagne and ripe strawberries.
  • Other goodies!
    • One packet STASH Premium mango passionfruit caffeine free herbal tea
    • One packet Yama Moto Yama Ginger Tea
    • One piece Brach's Cinnamon hard candy
    • One piece Lifesaver candy (individually wrapped)
    • A sample slice of Patchouli Blend soap from MoonDance Soaps & More
    • A BPAL Snake Oil postcard
    • A handwritten notecard
WHOA. Am I pleased with this mystery pack? FRAK YEAH! Not a single scent has made me go "eww", and several have made me go "ooooooooh, that's goooood". Also, I am now hungry. *laughs* It'll take a few more days to really go through them and see which ones I love and which ones are just okay, but I'm happy with them all.

This might be surprising, but the thing I was most excited about upon first opening the package was the patchouli soap. I see patchouli in BPAL's scent descriptions a lot, and have always thought, "what the HECK is patchouli?" I don't think I ever heard of it before getting into BPAL, so I had no idea what it smelled like or if I liked it. Now I do. ^_^ And yeah, I like it! So this purchase was good if only because it solved a mystery that's been plaguing me for a while! Second most exciting thing was Dragon's Reverie. Dragon's Heart is my go-to scent for work; the spicyness of the pepper gives me energy and makes me feel more courageous. It's been so good to me that I'm planning on buying a bottle eventually, and I've also been curious about the other dragon scents to see if they'd be as good to me, as well. So I was very happy to see a dragon in the mix. Also might have squeed a bit at seeing 13 and Sacred Whore of Babylon.

Current stash stats:
2 bottles (1 LE, 1 GC)
29 imps (2 TAL, 2 Non-BPAL samples, 25 imps)

Um yeah, this stuff is addicting. :D I really need to start a spreadsheet or something.
