Wisconsin Wants To Join Morning-After Pill Suit
MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin's attorney general filed a request with federal judge Wednesday to join a lawsuit demanding that the morning-after pill be made available without a prescription.
Wisconsin is the only state that has requested to join the Center for Reproductive Rights' lawsuit in the Eastern District of New York. The case is entering the discovery phase.
Peg Lautenschlager says the Food and Drug Administration's delays in approving the pills for over-the-counter distribution hurts rape victims who need the pills immediately. The Democrat says it also burdens the state's medical assistance programs with the costs of unplanned pregnancies.
