I need your advice!

There are two things about which I'd love to hear your opinions, my dear f-list.

First up, should I lock up my translations? Because, as of late, I have, by chance, come across quite a few incidents when excerpts from or the whole of my translations are posted around, or used in fanvids and such, without credit. Seriously, how hard would it be ( Read more... )

LOL

Umm I think lock the translation is the good way for people who interested only...

But about re-trans ... I think it would be okay if that person credit the sources properly or maybe can tell them to ask for permission before re-trans.
Umm...sometimes maybe they make mistakes but I do think we would like to share Arashi's stuffs and cutenesses to all over.

Thanks for reading my opinion and thanks for sharing everything ^^

uhm, that's true, I appreciate people's wish to spread Arashi stuffs as far as possible, to as many as possible, that's actually one of the main reasons why I never f-lock my posts and always agree to re-translation requests. But, well, don't you think that along side with spreading things, we should also make sure that the things we spread are accurate? I mean, we'd want people to love Arashi for what's true about them, instead of what people are mistakenly led to believe, right? Arghhh, if only there were only one language in the entire world, then there would be no need for translations whatsoever!

Thank you for your opinion *hug* You know, actually, if at all possible, I wouldn't want to impose any so-called "rule" over my LJ. I mean, this whole translating thing is supposed to be fun, both for the readers and for me, and such rigid thing as "rule" might as well spoil the fun a little IMO. But, yeah, when my little request for acknowledgment is so frequently ignored, maybe it's time to switch from "request" to "rule" *sigh*

btw, glad to know that you find my silly everyday ramble acceptable ^^

Well 'Lost In Translation" is an inevitable phenomenon. you can never get an exact translation into any other language, and i'm saying this through first-hand experience.
believe me because i do know a few languages and it's really difficult to give an exact translation even with the ones i'm well versed with...
so well you can imagine how much gets lost in translating a 3rd or 4th time.
Moreover, the translator's understanding of the context is important, so ya, it implies a good hold over the language.
what you could do is get them to ask your permission to re-translate.If you feel you wanna ban re-translations it's entirely up to you. Or you could provide the original links to them and they could use them instead.

As for locking the posts i guess that's a good idea. you could keep it public for some days and then lock it, so that those who aren't on your f-list get an opportunity to read them too.

right, lost in translation is scary, really really scary... I guess from now on I'll have to be a little stricter with re-translation requests *sigh* thanks a lot for your opinion *hug*
