You know, it's kind of funny... everyone always says you can't run away from trouble, but if anyone knew what went on in my house, they'd all be screaming for me to just take my sisters and run. If Duncan knew that the kid I babysit for that needs help, that I've been talking to social services about was my sister Grace... as passive as he can be about certain things, I can't believe for a second he'd want me staying here.
But it's all kind of a moot point, because nobody's ever going to find out. Lizzie and I are careful, Gracie's too terrified. Nobody has half a clue how bad things really are, what we've been through, and we're not telling anyone.
There's no point in trying to run away from this anyway. How far, how separate, can you really become from the people who gave you life? It doesn't matter how much you wish they were different people, that they were better people... that your mom would stand up for you instead of cowering in fear of you father just like you and your sisters do... nothing changes.
He did it to me, he did it to Lizzie, and now he's putting Gracie through the same hell all in the name of making us 'good Christian girls'. And I can't stop him.
