wednesday at the rex: october 11, 2006.
"neither rain nor sleet nor dark of night." that's the motto i came up with for W@TR. sweet, right? anyways. as usual, i was the first to show. joe soon followed and we made our way into the bar. and by soon, i mean i was waiting outside for twenty-five minutes waiting for anybody to show up. joe got me a shirley temple and got himself a beer. it was a sparse crowd last night, but it was the cream of the cream (the fucking cream of the crop). vec showed up eventually and grabbed a brew. kevin and vernon dominated the mic for most of the night, much to steve's chagrin. a drunken "curt" was in the house. despite bragging about his hot girlfriend, he kept trying to mack it to steve (i'm really not joking). he found a friend in joe and told him that steve was hitting on him all night. it was quite the opposite. steve wanted nothing to do with his bitch ass. steve frequently threatened to "get crazy up in this motherfucker" and bitch slap curt. all the while, there was a middle-aged woman coming in and out of the bar talking on her cell phone. as a karaoke song ended suddenly, she could be heard saying, "well, are you going to make love to me, or are you going to fuck me?" classic. joe, vec, and i were perusing the songbook for quite a while. none of us could decide. after steve personally called out vec to sing a song, it was time to rock. vec shook the walls with "bohemian rhapsody" by queen. he was joined partway through by some random guy who sang way out of his range. vec did a good job, though. kevin performed his usual tear-jerking rendition of "god bless the u.s.a." and vernon shook things up with "big poppa" by notorious b.i.g. and "smooth" by carlos santana. curt then had a nice talk with joe where joe seemed scared out of his mind the entire time. anyways, we got away from curt and parted ways. vec and i went to denny's and joe headed home. that was pretty much that. see you next wednesday.
