wednesday at the rex: october 4, 2006.
chechile, vec, joe, and i made it out to the rex lounge this evening for the growing tradition of 'wednesday at the rex.' we had the energy and vigor of a gang of young bucks on the way in, but our visions of the night were dampered when we heard merely dj music and saw about six people at the bar. steve the dj was down playing video poker while we ordered our drinks (two shirley temples for chechs and i, a sam adams for joe, and a coors light for vec). nobody was singing. so we decided to grab the songbooks and take a gander. after numerous terrible house songs, a drunk attempted to sing a three doors song that had just been played minutes earlier. then mark picard took the rex by storm with some unknown alanis morrissette song. vec went up to talk to steve about mr. ed, the lack of a crowd, and the whereabouts of crash (congrats on the nursing certification!). so vec took to the microphone and delivered a high pitched squeal that signalled it was time for "photograph" by def leppard. good show. next on the mic was myself, giving a slow, somber rendition of "i'm on fire" by bruce springsteen. mark sang another song about being gay. and then the renegade (who, i might add, was dressed in a leather jacket, old man hat, and FAKE MOUSTACHE) channeled neil sedaka in his version of "laughter in the rain." all in all, it was a pretty quiet night at the rex. next week sees blase making his return to the stage, and hopefully a larger crowd. see you next wednesday.
p.s. the wednesday at the rex gang will be making an appearance this saturday for uncle stevie's birfday bash. get into it.
p.p.s. boyz II men.
