I went swimming in the Green River earlier. It's a pretty silly river. It's some rocks with running water and a little swimming hole. It was still fun though. Tomorrow I will wake up early (again) and drive to Agawam for Six Flags, then go to Wesleyan...which is closer to Agawam than Williamstown is. So like, I don't know if anyone reads this who's at Wes right now, but if you are, we should hang out, or whatevs.
Ok, and this week has been pretty crazy news-wise. I'm relieved that someone in the Bush administration is finally having to sweat a little. At the same time, it's annoying that the media frenzy ended up being about some stupid Karl Rove leak. Yeah, he probably broke the law, technically. But let's face it, Valerie Plame wasn't a huge deal. The democrats are making it a huge deal because it's the only chink in the Bush administration's armor the press is willing to cover. I can only hope that they'll peel back the last layers and realize that this was part of the larger, rather deliberate deception about Iraq that was corroborated by the Downing Street Memo.
And in a somewhat unrelated story, Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-CA) has
announced that he won't run for reelection. Why not, pray tell? Well, he sold his mansion in Del Mar for $1.6 million to his buddy who happens to be the CEO of a major defense contractor (Cunningham sits on the defense committee, by the way). Said CEO sold the house again a few months later for $900,000, presumably the actual value of the house. This guy was also the main sponsor of the flag-burning amendment. Cool, dude. Keep up the good work.
