“I'm quitting.”
For a few critical seconds, everyone at the table just stared at him, as if his words had made no sense at all. And then Yoochun, Junsu, and Jaejoong exploded into protests all at once.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Don't say that sort of thing!”
“You can't quit!”
“As soon as we go back to the city, I'll hand in my resignation. That should make everyone happy.”
“Changmin-ah....”
If nothing else, at least his announcement had gotten Junsu and Jaejoong to talk to him again. Sort of. Not that it mattered anymore.
“Minnie-yah, don't say such things,” Jaejoong said softly, shaking his head. “This'll blow over soon enough, especially since you aren't seeing Aiji-hyung anymore.”
“You knew??” Changmin squawked. “You knew and you didn't say anything??? Jae-hyung!”
“You weren't saying anything!” Jaejoong protested, ducking away from the flying pastry vaguely aimed at his head. “Just sitting there, taking it all without fighting them.”
“You could have at least tried to defend me, you jerk,” Changmin muttered, throwing another pastry at the older singer's head. They were garnering strange looks from the rest of the dining room, but Changmin really didn't care anymore.
“You quitting isn't going to make anyone happy,” Junsu said into the relative silence. “Why would you even think something like that?”
“He's right,” Yoochun added. “We're not Dong Bang Shin Ki unless it's all five of us. Take one away and you're left with none.”
“Five equals one,” Jaejoong said with a firm nod. “And if you think we're going to just let you quit, you're wrong, Shim Changmin. Isn't that right, Yunnie?”
“As Changmin is so fond of reminding us, he's a grown man now. He can do as he pleases,” Yunho said, scooping up a last bite of rice before collecting his paper and simply leaving the table. Changmin could almost hear their jaws hitting the table, almost envied them their surprise.
“We're already not five. Me leaving just makes it more obvious,” Changmin muttered, giving up on his own breakfast. He wasn't hungry anymore anyway.
