Author´s note: Well here we go with a new chapter. I started my acting class now so with work I have even less time to write but I´m trying my best. I guess there might be 2 or 3 more chapters before this story ends, I don´t really know yet. Let me just tell you that the angst is not over yet...
Chapter 1-9 The time went by rather quickly and the girls spent most of it together. Lindsay would sit with Marissa in the pub until she had finished her shift on Monday and Marissa would come and visit Lindsay at the coffee shop.
Derek and Lindsay stayed in contact by texting each other which sort of gave Lindsay the feeling of being a part of the big city life. Derek would tell her about his day and the weird or funny people he had met.
It was Tuesday night and Marissa was preparing dinner while Lindsay was dancing around the kitchen and singing to Defying Gravity.
Marissa couldn´t help but smile as she tried really hard to concentrate on the food, but Lindsay was sort of distracting.
The other girl didn´t even seem to notice, because she kept on singing and shooting glances into Marissa´s direction. Lindsay´s smile was wide and it was as if she just couldn´t stop. There was music, food and most of all: Marissa. Her best friend was wearing grey sweatpants, a black shirt and had her hair pulled up in a pony tail and it wasn´t anything like glamorous or sexy, but still Lindsay thought that she looked perfect. Lindsay had noticed that Marissa always looked beautiful to her, she always caught herself staring at her friend and most of the time it ended up with them smiling at each other.
When Lindsay finished belting out the last note and the song changed, she went up to Marissa. “What are you even cooking?” she asked and looked down into the pan. “It smells really good by the way.”
Marissa smiled and turned around. Of course she had expected Lindsay to be close, since she was standing right behind her, but…
“Oh.”
Suddenly their faces were only inches apart and Marissa felt her body pressed against Lindsay´s. Marissa´s heart was racing, because woah, that was close. She felt the blood pounding in her ears and Lindsay was staring up at her with her beautiful, dark eyes. Marissa knew that she was caught. Voices were ringing in her head, but she couldn´t define them, couldn´t make out what they were saying.
Marissa didn´t even bother to listen closely though, because all she wanted now was to lean forward and…
A sudden and harsh riiiiiing pierced through the air and both girls jumped at the sound, pulling away from each other.
Lindsay shot an apologetic look at Marissa and fumbled with her phone.
“Derek?” she asked and turned away to talk to the boy.
Marissa took a deep breath and tried to get rid of off the pain that she was suddenly feeling in her chest and that was threatening to force the air out of her lungs.
What…what was that?
Her heart was still racing and she turned around, having just a little trouble to take her eyes of off Lindsay. They weren´t going to…but they could have…and what would have happened if Derek hadn´t called?
Who did this Derek guy he thought he was anyway? The pain in Marissa´s chest began to mix with anger and she shook her head, taking another deep breath.
This was not good, she wasn´t supposed to be…jealous, especially not if someone just called Lindsay.
Marissa tried to focus on the food that was still cooking on the stove, it wouldn´t help anyone if she burned down the house, even though she was feeling like she could kick or throw something right there and then.
Lindsay had finished her phone call after a few seconds simply by telling Derek that she didn´t have time. Which wasn´t a lie, but mainly it was because she was too confused by what had just…well, almost happened.
She looked over at Marissa, but the other girl was facing the stove and Lindsay bit her lip. What was she gonna say now? This had the potential to be really awkward.
Lindsay shuffled from one foot to another for a minute before she looked at her phone again and noticed a text message she had gotten a few minutes ago.
Lindsay looked down at the message and furrowed her brows. What had Damian done now?
She glanced over at Marissa who was still facing the stove and then dialed her best friend´s number. It took a few seconds before Damian answered the phone.
“Linds?”
“Damian what did you do?” Lindsay was supposed to sound more caring but she was still confused about Marissa and she felt like Marissa was ignoring her, which she probably was, and that was not a good thing.
“I…well…do you remember how I told you I was hiding at Lea´s place?”
“Yeah, I told you to call Cam because he was worried.”
There was a short pause before Damian spoke again.
“Well yeah…I might have been hiding at Lea´s place and I ignored him on set. Fuck Linds, I screwed up.”
“You…what? Why would you do that?!”
Of course Lindsay could understand that Damian was scared, but Cameron was his best friend and no matter how bad it was gonna be, they couldn´t screw that up.
“I didn´t mean to…”
“Damian Joseph McGinty you´ll get your ass back home right now and talk to your best friend! I know you might be scared but what you´re doing to him is not fair, he´s probably at home asking himself what he did wrong! He´s your best friend and you don´t want to screw that up too! For once don´t think and just do what your heart tells you, ok? Because if you don´t I´m gonna come over and deal with this personally, and believe me, you don´t want that!”
There was another pause and Lindsay sighed.
“Listen to me Damo, I know you love him and even if he doesn´t love you back, which I think he does by the way, this is worse than anything. You mean so much to him, so please Damo, go and fix this!”
Lindsay could only imagine how Cameron must have felt since Saturday and how he was probably still feeling. There was a high chance that if Marissa wouldn´t talk to her, Lindsay would go crazy. She just needed the other girl around, needed to hear her voice and see her smile. She looked over to her best friend who was just taking the pan from the stove.
What is this?
“So…so I´m going home now?!” Damian interrupted her thoughts and Lindsay snapped back into reality.
“Yeah Damo, go and fix this. I´m surprised Lea didn´t already kick you out.”
“Well…she told me that it took more than two weeks last time.” Damian said. “Well…I guess I´m off then. And Linds? Thanks.”
With that he hung up and Lindsay put her phone away, starting to shuffle from one foot to another again. What was she gonna say to Marissa now? Was this gonna be awkward? And most of all, did they have to talk about it?
When Marissa finally turned around Lindsay opened her mouth to say something, but it wasn´t only Marissa´s eyes that caught her again and stopped her from talking, there was also the clicking of the door and the voice of Marissa´s father that interrupted her.
“Thank God you girls already cooked! I´m so hungry! What´s for dinner tonight?”
