Lindsay entered the apartment and switched on the lights while she let her bag slid off of her shoulder.

She sighed and wandered into the living room, slumping down onto the couch. Today was a fucked up day. Not only did they had to film one scene countless times because either the director didn´t like it or someone had messed up, no it was also the day Marissa was supposed to be back from New York after 3 weeks, right in time for their one year anniversary. But during a break, when Lindsay had checked her phone, it had a message from her girlfriend on it, saying that the recording was talking longer and that she wouldn´t be home for another two days. To be fair, she had been the one that messed up the scene after this.

Lindsay didn´t know whether to kick something or to just crawl into bed and sleep until that damn pain in her chest would go away. She knew that it was stupid, that they could still celebrate when Marissa came back, but it was just not her day anyway and this was not making it any better.

A few more seconds passed before Lindsay got up from the couch and walked into the direction of her bedroom, ready to just crawl into bed and hide under the covers. She was almost at the door when her phone vibrated and she immediately turned around, basically running back to the couch.

She picked her phone up from the table and smiled as soon as she saw Marissa´s name on the display.

“Hey!” she answered excitement clearly visible in her voice. It might have sounded weird because they were talking on the phone almost every day, but Lindsay missed Marissa´s voice. Actually she missed everything about her girlfriend, her smell, her touch, her smile, but Lindsay was sure that she would go crazy if she couldn´t at least hear her voice.

“Hey babe, happy anniversary!”

Lindsay smiled and wanted to reply as the door bell rang. She looked over and decided against opening the door, she had more important things to do.

“Don´t you want to get that?” Marissa´s voice came from the phone and Lindsay shook her head.

“No, I don´t care who that is, all I care about is you.”

“Babe you should really get that, might be something important.”

Lindsay raised an eyebrow and looked back to the door. Why would Marissa want her to open the door? She shrugged her shoulders and made her way over to the door.

She honestly half expected Marissa to just stand there in front of her, but then she knew that Marissa had work to do, just like she had herself and she couldn´t have just hopped on a plane to New York, even if she had wanted to.

Lindsay turned the door knob and saw a man standing front of her, carrying a huge bouquet of red roses.

“Miss Lindsay Pearce?” he asked and Lindsay just nodded. “These are for you.”

He handed the flowers over and turned around to walk back down the stairs.

Lindsay looked down at the roses and it took her a moment to notice the card that was tucked in between them. She stuck the phone between her ear and shoulder and pulled the card out.

Happy anniversary Darling,
I´m sorry I can´t be there with you, I´ll make it up to you, promise!
I love you, Marissa

Lindsay had tears in her eyes when she finished reading the little note and she wanted to say something to Marissa who was, of course, still on the phone, but there was no sound coming from her mouth.

Why was Marissa so wonderful? And why wasn´t she here?

Lindsay took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a second, imagining Marissa standing in front of her.

“I love you.” She finally said, her voice quiet and shaky. It were just three simple words, three words they had said many times before, but suddenly they seemed to have a whole new meaning. “I love you so much.” Lindsay whispered and held on tight to the bouquet.

“I love you too.” Marissa said and Lindsay was almost sure she could hear the other girl smile. “And now get dressed, Hannah, Damian and Cam are coming over in fifteen minutes to take you out for dinner. You´re not gonna be alone tonight.”
