Please consider not doing LJ idol. The person who runs it once had a topic that required people to mock a mental illness. When called on it she said that these people "don't suffer" as if she got to decide who was suffering and who was not.
Please show me where he posted this topic. I will tell you I've been doing this for 3 seasons and I've never once seen Gary (who is a man not a woman) post such a topic or talk in such a way. I'm not saying you're wrong but I've never seen this post nor can I find it when I searched when I saw you refer to this on other people's posts. So if you want people to consider this, please provide proof so that we can really see what you are talking about.
"What does narcissism have to do with me?" - That's the topic I found that Gary would have posted related to your entry.
I don't see how this is mocking an illness but providing a writing prompt to write what you want. Me, I would have written about my aunt and my experiences with her as she has narcissistic personality disorder which is different than being narcissistic. Nowhere in your post does Gary [the person who runs this] respond to you or say "people don't suffer." The closest I can find is that someone else commented that "i wouldn't worry about offending people with narcissism." That's not the person who runs this - that is a reader who read your work. I also then went to look in the work rooms because someone had mentioned to you to talk to Gary in a work room - I don't see any such comment from Gary so I'm really am even more confused by your post.
As I pointed out in my entry, asking everyone to relate to a mental illness when they don't have it is mocking it. It's just as offensive to say "I'm narcissistic because I..." as it is to say "I'm so bipolar!" because you are happy one day and sad the next. Sure, some people have relatives with narcissistic personality disorder they could talk about but most people don't, and most people on that round talked about how they did something a little self centered this one time.
What I was told at the time was that my objections had been brought up and dismissed in the community before I even posted because Gary pointed out that narcissistic people don't suffer.
So I think we will have to agree to disagree on what is mocking. He didn't ask anyone to relate to a mental illness. He didn't ask anyone to mock it. He provided a prompt - no one had to write a true to life piece. That's up to people to choose how they respond. That prompt provides some great fictional writing ideas as well that people could have done

I find it completely implausible to believe that he doesn't know what kinds of entries get written for ljidol. He, along with everyone else, know that it is mostly true to life type entries and always has been. ""What does narcissism have to do with me" is literally asking what narcissism has to do with each individual, and the answer in 99% of the cases should have been "absolutely nothing."
Many people write fiction. Many of my previous entries for LJ Idol have been fictional pieces (and as I said I've done this for multiple seasons so I very much am familiar with the entries). So that topic could have been interpreted in many ways - you chose to take it literally but it didn't have to be. But if people chose to write about real life, I find it completely implausible that you think 99% of the people could not relate to narcissism in one way or another (and not the mental illness because not everyone does but the simple concept of being narcissistic which I find interesting you ignore the definition of narcissism). Again, we will have to agree to disagree and having considered what you said and reading the posts, I disagree with your initial claim that he encouraged people to mock mental illnesses or that he said to you that narcissists deserve to suffer. You have every right to be upset with LJIdol if that's how you feel but I definitely recommend talking to Gary since you're still holding on this 9 years later and it
