So I think we will have to agree to disagree on what is mocking. He didn't ask anyone to relate to a mental illness. He didn't ask anyone to mock it. He provided a prompt - no one had to write a true to life piece. That's up to people to choose how they respond. That prompt provides some great fictional writing ideas as well that people could have done.

Someone pointed out - Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Narcissism are two different things. Many can relate to Narcissism which is simply: "the pursuit of gratification from vanity or egotistic admiration of one's idealised self image and attributes. This includes self-flattery, perfectionism, and arrogance." To me using your words, his prompt is no different than "I'm egotistic because..."

Before you try to say, well Hillary you don't know what it's like to have mental health issues" I am diagnosed with OCD and Anxiety. Does it bother me when other people say OMG I'm OCD because I need my room clean? Yeah, it's annoying but would it bother me if there was an entry "What does OCD have to do with me?" Nope because it's not mocking anything but providing a question and a prompt. What people do with it is up to them.

Again, as I mentioned and I've gone through all the work rooms from that week I could have missed something but I ran a search for name and for the comment) - I don't see your objections brought up or dismissed or any kind of response from Gary that says that. I definitely recommend in the future if you have concerns, bringing them up yourself and not counting on other people. I would also recommend if this is still bothering you 9 years later to really talk to Gary and see what he has to say.

I find it completely implausible to believe that he doesn't know what kinds of entries get written for ljidol. He, along with everyone else, know that it is mostly true to life type entries and always has been. ""What does narcissism have to do with me" is literally asking what narcissism has to do with each individual, and the answer in 99% of the cases should have been "absolutely nothing."

Many people write fiction. Many of my previous entries for LJ Idol have been fictional pieces (and as I said I've done this for multiple seasons so I very much am familiar with the entries). So that topic could have been interpreted in many ways - you chose to take it literally but it didn't have to be. But if people chose to write about real life, I find it completely implausible that you think 99% of the people could not relate to narcissism in one way or another (and not the mental illness because not everyone does but the simple concept of being narcissistic which I find interesting you ignore the definition of narcissism). Again, we will have to agree to disagree and having considered what you said and reading the posts, I disagree with your initial claim that he encouraged people to mock mental illnesses or that he said to you that narcissists deserve to suffer. You have every right to be upset with LJIdol if that's how you feel but I definitely recommend talking to Gary since you're still holding on this 9 years later and it is bothering you.
