Title: Per Me Si Va (Through Me One Goes), (Part 1/3)

Summary: Cordy comes out of the coma after Jasmine is killed and there is no W&H deal. She's not snapping back like we'd hope and Angel does something about Connor that throws them in a tailspin.
Warning: This is not a happy fic. I was very, very intrigued by the Halloween Ficathon prompt given by Samsmom that no one took. It made a great vehicle for me to try my muscles at writing a realistic (I think) Dark!Cordy. I hope you agree that Cordy's character might have gone this way if "some people" had wanted to explore the repercussions of S4.
Dedication: To Samsmom for the challenge and for encouraging me even after she saw the first part. I will post her wonderful challenge at the end.

Title: When I Had Laid It On The Floor

Prompt by Samsmom: Thank you!!! Cordelia is killed in a car crash on Halloween night. One year later, a stranger comes to the Hyperion asking for Angel, saying that he picked up a hitchhiker who gave him the hotel’s address, saying she has to get home. But she disappears before the driver arrives at the front door. Angel doesn’t believe him until another driver arrives a year after that, bearing the same story. Angel must find out why Cordelia’s spirit is trying to reach him, and find a way to save her if he can.
Set: This was a minor problem, as killing off Cordy sets everything AU. Wanting Angel and Cordy’s emotional connection in place, I set her death in S2, following Dear Boy. I’m sure that woke Angel up and changed his course. So the story starts a year later, and I pushed a particular event from Halloween S3 to a year later, because hey! everything’s different without our girl in the mix.
Thanks: to Whedon et al, for their wonderful characters. No infringement intended and there's no profit being made. And a huge thank you to Starlet2367 for asking just the right questions and pushing me past my barriers. I really struggled to write this story in a readable way, and I was in a hurry. Starlet made me stop, take a breath, and do it right. Although we went into it with the right enthusiasm and I absolutely love the hitch-hiking ghost story, had it plotted before I started and knew what I wanted to do, this story still became difficult for both of us to work on.
Angel throws open the sewer door and tosses his bloodied axe into the basement.

Note: I played around a bit with the concept of vampire lore. Anyone who watches Supernatural and remembers what happened to Gordon the vampire slayer will get what I mean. Hopefully I've written (in spoiler font) --> Cordy's transition <--- convincingly enough for those of you who don't watch Supernatural to get it too...
