“… And they lived happily ever after. The end,” Sasuke ended with a thankful sigh that the story finally came to a stop.
Naruto came up with weird requests at times, but this was the first time he’s ever asked Sasuke to… read him a fairytale. Oh, the things he’ll do for the blond.
Naruto wrinkled his nose slightly before flopping onto the bed. Sasuke raised an eyebrow at the fox’s antics, but decided not to ask.
Naruto decided to answer his unasked question, “They’re not going to last.”
“Hmm? What are you talking about, dobe? What part of ‘they lived happily ever after’ did you not understand?”
Naruto turned towards Sasuke; blue eyes alight in a strange seriousness that spoke so much, but explained so little. “How long is ‘ever after’?” he asked.
“Something akin to forever, I guess,” was Sasuke’s indifferent answer.
Pushing himself up to a sitting position and staring Sasuke straight in the eye, Naruto then inquired, “And how long is forever?”
Sasuke remained silent.
Waving his hand to brush off the question he just asked, Naruto said, “But that’s not what I was talking about.”
“Then what were you talking about?” Sasuke inquired, sighing exasperatedly, and wishing Naruto would just get to the point.
Tilting his head to the side, Naruto answered with another question, “The ‘the end’… is it written in the book as well?”
Deciding to humor him, Sasuke opened to the last page, and at the bottom, in fancy calligraphy were the words “The End.”
“So what if they are?” Sasuke asked, glancing at Naruto whose eyes wrinkled in distaste at the words.
“Geeze, you’re slow, aren’t you Sasuke? True love stories don’t have an ending. There isn’t suppose to be a ‘the end’ because if their love was going to last then there wouldn’t be an ending!” Naruto explained heatedly, waving his hands in the air to emphasize his point. Seeing Sasuke’s amused smirk, Naruto settled down, crossed his arms and gave a small huff. A light blush covered his cheeks as he spoke, “All I’m saying is that true love stories don’t have an ending.”
“Like ours?” Sasuke asked, wrapping his arms around a pouting Naruto.
Ducking his head so that Sasuke won’t be able to see the dark blush that covered his face, Naruto muttered, “Yea… exactly like ours.”
