It's hard to remain as happy as I was 12 hours ago. To me, the country took a giant step forward in electing Barack Obama as our next president, but a giant step backwards was also taken, when California voted yes to Proposition 8. The law repeals the legalization of gay marriage in that state and defines marriage as between a man and a woman.
Taking away rights? How American is that?
As heavy as my heart is, I still feel hopeful. I don't know what kind of president Barack Obama's going to be. No one does. Maybe he'll be great? Maybe he'll be terrible? Maybe he'll be completely mediocre? Either way, I'm ready. January 20 marks a new era, and I'm proud to tell my children and grandchildren that I was apart of it.
Anyway, here's my schedule for next semester. My last one ever, by the way:
PO333 Middle Eastern Politics: Tuesday, Thursday 5-6:15
HS227 Russian Cultural and Intellectual History: Tuesday, 6:30-9:10
JRN365 Editing for Print, Wednesday 3:30-6:15
MSS 119 A, Sign Language Workshop: (Starting March 19) Thursday, 6:30-9:10
And I'm getting an internship somewhere. I've got a bunch of places in mind. We'll see.
