I hate popcorn

I've watched quite a few movies recently.

The School of Rock - Pretty decent. It has some logic troubles, but still a very entertaining movie.

INLAND EMPIRE - Actually, I started this a long time ago and never finished. Now that I have finally finished, I guess I have to mark it down as a failure. It has some great moments but they are too few and far between. Mostly it feels like film school, where I watched too many people's projects that were complete bullshit. They were just shooting whatever and hiding behind "It's art! You can't criticize my art!" Wrong-o, matey. I'm surly and I'll criticize what I like. You just don't have to listen to me. This film felt like that in a lot of places. Of course, I really don't think Lynch had the same motivation as those guys. I don't really think he's being lazy. I think he's just guilty of excess. Just because you can shoot and shoot and shoot on digital doesn't mean you should. If the point is to communicate something to your audience, then restraint is necessary. If it's just for you, then great. Mission accomplished.

Run, Lola, Run and City of God I posted about before, so I won't cover that again.

Next up will be the 400 Blows, the famous French New Wave era film. We'll see how that goes. I actually hate most of the things that came out of that period of filmmaking, but it's such a cinema touchstone that I figure I should watch it at least once.
