I might not normally post about Valentines day......if it weren't for the food we ate!
Pretty great day because we didn't buy each other dumb gifts, we just hung out and ate and enjoyed each others company. Pretty much the way it should be....the way everyday should be.
We drove to the Chocolate Gecko on Colvin Ave in Albany to see if they had any vegan stuff. After browsing and feverishly reading labels I found these dark chocolate granola bites that were vegan. I decided to keep looking. Then I found some chocolate covered NEWMAN O'S. They had pure dark chocolate covered ones and I asked the woman near them, who happened to be the owner, if they were vegan....she was like "ummm....I don't think so?" I inquired if the ones in my hand were regular newman o's and if they were covered with the dark chocolate ingredients on the back...the label was weird cause it listed all of the varieties ingredients, but you could clearly see the difference between milk and dark chocolate. She said yes and I said.....then these are VEGAN!
YES....they were so scrumptious.

Later we drove an hour to Tivoli to eat at Luna 61.....amazing! We started with the tempeh fries served with homemade barbecue sauce. It was really good. The tempeh was broiled to almost crispy and the sauce was very sweet. We both ended up having the jerk seitan chimichangas which came with black beans and rice. It was great! Their seitan is pretty good but the sauce really made the dish, plus the crisp tortilla shell was yummy too! Then to finish it up we split a piece of double chocolate cake and the nice hostess gave us a free dark chocolate covered strawberry too! The cake was really moist and fluffy. I love their vegan desserts because they are a bit more natural than mine being that they use sweeteners like agave nectar and maple syrup or rice syrup. So good and it didn't hurt my teeth to eat it all. Thats one thing I hate about some desserts. I can't stand when stuff is so sickenly sweet that it makes my teeth throb. I really strive for no teeth throbbing when you eat my desserts.

I love Luna 61! They have a really good brunch too!
