This honestly doesn't have to do with Thundercats, sorry to disappoint.

Frank’s laugh overpowered the sounds of the after-school cartoon show playing on the television screen. The show itself had been forgotten a few seconds after Frank stole the remote from Gerard. He switched the channel to an episode of Thundercats, which, a few years back, would have been the subject of their first discussion at school the next day. Instead, they laughed through their conversation about how Frank’s stash was nearly found by his nosy mother, and then they debated if Cheetos were better than Doritos.

“Both taste good to me.” Frank sprawled his feet across Gerard’s lap, kicking him in the face when Gerard attempted to push Frank’s legs away. It ended when Gerard threw a cushion at a squealing Frank, and howled out a laugh, which Frank would tease Gerard about later.

Their conversation eventually died down, and Frank’s attention finally switched over to the television. Gerard wondered how long it would be before Frank’s eyes wandered off in a different direction, along with his thoughts. He moved on to wondering if Frank ever thought about Gerard as much as Gerard did about him.

One night a while ago, when Gerard had woken up, he had only been slightly surprised to find that Frank was the reason his sheets needed changing the next day, and that he was the subject of the sexual fantasies that followed over the next few weeks. Gerard learned to accept his crush on Frank before his hormones decided to interfere, and when they did, the awkwardness of it all only lasted a few days before Gerard shrugged his shoulders and hid behind his baggy clothes and constant excuses. To Gerard, it felt like he could survive the remainder of puberty in the company of his best friend without a mention of his possible homosexuality or, even worse, the fact that he liked Frank as ”more than a friend.”

That was why it was equally as shocking to Gerard as it was to Frank when their lips pressed together in not-so-romantic moment. They both retracted, and each simply stared into the other’s eyes for the next minute or so. Frank gasped and Gerard stood up abruptly.

“Shit, sorry,” Gerard mumbled, sitting back down on the couch; he moved to the edge, where he was farthest away from his friend.

“No, uh, no it’s cool.” Frank shook his head vigorously, and Gerard wasn’t exactly sure if it was Frank trying to convince Gerard that it was okay, or if it was himself he was trying to reassure. So, Gerard simply nodded in response. That’s when, despite the faint sound of the television, the room fell completely silent for the next two minutes straight; not even the utter chaos of panic and exaggerated apologies made a sound in either mind.

“Remember that girl from second period?” Frank’s vision had been fixed on his own lap, but he got up the courage to look over to his friend as he waited for an answer.

“With the nice-“

“Yeah.” Gerard grinned, scooting closer, after Frank cut him off. “Jamia? Tomorrow, after school - you know, I actually really do like her and I’m going to ask her to - I’m asking her out.” Gerard couldn’t help but belt out a laugh at Frank’s nervousness, even taking the opportunity to pat his friend on the arm.

“Yeah, go for it!” Gerard nodded, with enthusiasm in his voice. Frank gave his friend a gentle push, enough to catch Gerard off guard but not enough to actually knock him. Just as Gerard was about to push back, the sound of a car pulling into the driveway caught their attention. “Hey, Frank, don’t tell my dad about me being - you know,” Gerard pleaded.

“As long as you don’t tell anyone that I actually still watch this shit.” Frank didn’t bother to pay attention to the ending credits to the episode of Thundercats, which only Gerard knew Frank could probably quote.
