[Oh, so that's where the whole history section went. Sitting on top of a barren bookshelf, peering down at the castle person.]

So are you the Book King, or a knight or prince or duke or czar or just sitting?

[Caesar looks up from the book he'd begun idly flipping through. What. Should that little girl be up there? Probably not, but if she managed to get up there, she probably knows climbing just fine.]

Those are all really pompous titles. I'm not nobility. [He closes the book.] Just a Guardian of Knowledge will do.

[Well how else was she supposed to look inside? Swinging her feet a little, she considers before nodding along.]

Yeah, okay! That sounds cool too and I dunno what pomp-us means but if you say you're a guardian then you can be like friends of the river guardians and that'd be awesome! [Pause.] So if you're guarding it does it mean I can't have any?

[There was a gate! Tablegate. She could have knocked on it. Though viewing from above works just as well.]

River guardians? [What even? He inwardly shrugs and lets it slide. Kids have imaginations for that sort of stuff.] Yeah. We're cool. [He looks at the books in the walls, then back up at Navi.]

Sure you can. You just have to ask.

[Tables aren't gates, everything would fall off when they opened and then they wouldn't be good tables at all.]

Mhm! River guardians should have friends too. [Hang on, taking a moment to blink.] Oh, really? Uhm, okay.

[Tidying self up on the shelf and sitting straighter.] May I have a book from your knowledge castle, Mister Guardian Person?

Don't they have fish for friends?

[Mister Guardian Person, huh? Caesar gives Navi a serious, thoughtful look.]

I don't know. [Thiiiinking.] Alright. You may. Just remember, if you knock anything over, you have to fix it.

No, the fish are family. An' family is nice, but it's not like friends.

[Waiting and fidgeting, until-] Okay! I will!

[And off the back of the shelf and out of sight she goes! Instead of a thud however, she is heard on the outside of the wall by the history section.] Thanks, you're a really nice guardian! Do you want one too?

Oh.

[Well, he can't argue with that, now can he?] Wait. HEY! [Thankfully the sound of a little kid hitting the floor never comes. Phew. How did she... why is he even wondering? School of mutants.]

No thanks. [Caesar stands up and steps over to the history wall. He peers over it.] I have books.

[Oh, well this is a predicament. The Big Book With All the Pictures is wedged quite nicely smack in the middle of the wall. This could potentially be the most extreme game of Jenga she has ever played.]

[Hi again Guardian Person, you look a lot taller from this angle.] Oh, okay. You should prolly stand back then, just in case.

[Easing that book out, inch by inch. At the last second the books wobble, and two at the top fall off onto her side.] Ah! I'm sorry, are you okay?

[Hey, Caesar is the tall one for once. How about that.]

How about... [Oh, there goes some books. He takes a step back.] I'm fine. Careful there. The stack is destabilizing.

[Not that he offers to help or anything. She's capable of doing this herself, right? Psh.]

[Well, she got the book she wanted! And one on fashion changes of Europe in the 1840's and one on Australia. No matter, she piles them all up in her arms and ducks around the wall.]

Okay! It's good that you're fine 'cause if you got hurt or something who would guard the knowledge?

[And with a little climbing under and over and up, a Navi in the fort and standing on the table.] So should these go back on top, or d'you think they would be better somewhere else?

[Caesar makes sure the stack that got shook up isn't about to tumble for real and turns around to peer at this tiny new visitor.]

If I got hurt, I could always ask the Kitchen Dweller to take over for me, but I don't know if he would be any good at the guarding thing.

[He shot a glance back over his shoulder at the wall. Hmn.]

You can put them back on top after you look through them. I think those books wanted you to read them.

Woah, we have a Kitchen Dweller? Does Mister Sanji know about him maybe they could get along and cook things an' then he could watch the kitchen while Mister Sanji and Tiana danced!

[Blinking, and then staring down at her newfound books like she's never seen them before.] You really think so? They coulda just asked 'stead of falling on me.

[And the table is now a chair, as she takes up a corner and tries to decide what to look at first. Ooh, Australian history has cool pictures.] What book have you gotta read, then?

Who knows. Maybe they've met.

[Though he doubts Matt would want to watch the kitchen during prom. That sounded like work. Caesar strolls over to look at the books that Navi had collected.]

Books don't often talk. Hm? What book? Oh, I don't really need to read any of them. I know everything already.

[Suuure, Caesar. Sure.]

[Maybe she should tell Luffy about the Kitchen Dweller - he might help her look if it helped his idea along!]

Well, yeah. They prolly don't because wherever they are is a library and in libraries you hafta be really quiet.

[She feels bad reading anything first, so now she has black and white photos of ladies in huge dresses, a sprawling glossy of a bridge in Sydney, and diagrams of the Globe Theater taking up the space in front of her.] Oh, really? I used to know everything but then I found more stuff. Can you tell my why Pericles didn't just stay on land then?

tacticalnap January 4 2011, 14:28:20 UTC
Pericles? The Greek general?

[That's the only Pericles he knows of. The kid couldn't possibly mean that guy.]

I wasn't aware he could fly. Or do you mean someone else?
