Josh was actually running a little behind getting to the meeting, and so he was quickly jogging across the campus in hopes of not being late--or at least not noticeably late. He'd had enough 1st days in his time to know that first impressions on teachers tended to stick with you. He really didn't want to start off on the wrong foot, especially not with a teacher that he was apparently going to be working pretty closely with, from what he'd heard about these mentor groups so far.

He slowed to a walk as he approached--with a minute to spare--the shooting range, of all places. He was a little apprehensive about why the teacher would choose here of all places to hold their meeting. He just hoped she (Miss Ritona, right?) wasn't one of the more frightening teachers (Wolverine came to mind), and preferably was at least sort of chill. He didn't really know what to expect. And he definitely didn't expect what he saw.

Hottest. Teacher. Ever.

When he noticed he was staring he quickly turned away, hoping he hadn't been doing so for too long and maybe even she hadn't noticed. Maybe she wouldn't notice he was blushing, either. That would be nice. "Hi uhhh...I'm here for the meeting? I'm Josh."

Still leaning back against the wall, she turned toward him as he approached. So the first kid had arrived, huh? Thank the heavens. Yoko had never been one to wait patiently, and so it had been a true test of her endurance to sit there and do nothing for so very long; it would be a total lie to say that she didn't feel relieved to see one of her students heading her way.

If she was aware of his wandering eyes--which she totally was--she didn't let it show; instead, she merely gave him a warm smile, breaking away from the wall to stand up straight. "Well, it's nice to meet you face-to-face. I'm Miss Ritona, even though I'm sure you remember." He looked like a capable student, which was certainly a plus. Her smile widened just a bit more as she hefted her rifle back over her shoulder. "I'm sure you're eager to start, but there's... not much we can do until everyone else arrives. We shouldn't have to wait too much longer, though."

[ooc: sorry for being so late, sob. work....]

To his relief Miss Ritona so far seemed to be pretty nice. And just pretty, but he was going to do his best not to think about that. Crushes on teachers were weird, and wrong on just about every level. "That's fine. Err, I don't even know what we're starting, to be honest," He admitted with a somewhat embarrassed tone, "no ones really explained this whole mentoring thing to me yet."

[ooc: Don't worry about it, I know how it is.]

Kate, at least, has no problem looking Miss Ritona in the eyes, especially since she has the woman's class. She walks up exactly on time, carrying her bow over her shoulder and a clipboard in her hand. If she's already out here, she might as well practice after this meeting is done.

She takes note of the boy -- not one she's spoken to directly, she doesn't think -- and nods at him. "They're advisory groups, right? We don't actually do much?"

"Well, we don't have to do anything," Yoko said, giving the newcomer a genuine smile. While she didn't know Josh, she did know Kate; she was one of the few people she actually trusted in her firearms class, after all. It wasn't like she had to worry that the girl would wind up shooting herself in the foot or something equally as stupid. "But just because we don't have to do anything doesn't mean that we won't. I know for a fact that a certain other teacher is planning on pitting his group against us in whatever stupid competition he can come up with."

She couldn't help but to snort slightly as she reached up to brush her bangs out of her eyes. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, though. For now, this group is here just for you. If you think you need some extra help with something, or if you have something you want to talk about, I'm here."

Well, that was her little speech for the day. It was certainly a good feeling, knowing that she had it out of the way.

"So we basically just...hang out then?" Josh couldn't help but be a little relieved to here that. He was worried this was going to end up being a whole extra class that was going to be giving him homework and projects and stuff. He wouldn't mind it being a bit more laid back; it might give him a chance to actually get to know some people here.

He glanced at the newest arrival, a girl he hadn't met yet. How did know about these things already, anyway? Maybe he should read the stuff the teachers were posting on the network more carefully...

toootally not late what are you talking about. thimbleflight October 21 2009, 20:46:51 UTC
Being early had been Wendy's every intention, but she'd been caught in conversation, and the next thing she knew she was running late. She was rarely ever late. It wasn't kind to keep someone waiting for you while you sat around talking to someone else. Miss Ritona was nice enough, Wendy knew that from her English class, but she still didn't want to make her and the rest of the group wait for her.

She was there just in time to catch the tail end of whatever Miss Ritona had been saying. It didn't seem like they'd be doing too much today, which was good, but Wendy made a note to herself not to be late again. Who knew what they would be doing next.

"Sorry!" she commented, slightly out of breath from running over.

pffffffffft you're good pewpewpewpower October 23 2009, 00:24:47 UTC
"You can think of it that way, if you want," she said, looking back over at Josh. "But seriously, come to me if you need to talk, or if you need just a bit of help, okay? It's why I'm here."

Yoko turned back away from the others for a moment, eyeing the new girl who was quickly approaching. "Late, huh?" she said, pretending to eye the girl critically... but it wasn't like she could keep it up. It wasn't like they were going to do anything, anyway. Eventually, she gave her a small smile. "Just try not to make a habit out of it."

So she had three of her four students with her. She could deal with that, she supposed. "I suppose the next order of business, though, is for everyone to, well... meet one another. Or do you all know one another already?"
