Fletcher was out near the edge of the school grounds, just walking around amongst the trees. He'd been a little worked up lately, but being out in nature helped calm him down, so there he was. He wasn't really expecting to see anyone else, so it surprised him when he caught sight of Pearl standing nearby, bouncing a ball.
"I'm just going for a walk, that's all..." He didn't really feel like explaining that he was upset, or what he was upset about. The only person who really needed to know that was his brother. "What're you doing, Pearl?"
"Just playing," she said, bouncing her ball a little harder- the result was it flying up a few feet above her head. Ok, so that was apparently too hard. "I haven't played with my ball for a while."
It was still enough to make him wince when he caught it, though; he'd have to practice some more, it seemed. But at least he managed to get it, and a smile crossed his face when he realized that.
Maybe it would go further if he threw it from his chest. He tried it that way this time.
Pearl only had to take a small step forward to catch it this time, beaming at him. "How's the Tuck book?" she asked she she tossed it lightly back (though her aim was a little off this time).
"I-- ack!" He missed it this time, and had to run and grab it from where it had rolled off to one side. He picked it up and turned back to her. "I liked it a lot." He was a fast reader; he'd finished it already.
"Sorry!" she called as he chased after the ball. She did need to be more careful. "It sounded like a good book. Maybe when I get a little bit better, I can read it too!"
"Mostly just picture books. I have a lot of trouble with bigger words..." Pearl obviously didn't like this fact, but remained optimistic as she returned the ball. "But Ms. Munroe is giving me extra reading lessons!"
"Oh, hi..." he called out quietly.

"That looks like fun. I don't have one myself..." Because he wasn't a sporty person.

He backed up a step, and threw the ball underhand toward her. But it fell short by about a foot.
