OMFG!!! I just got done with a 2 hour bike ride that kicked my ass way worse about halfway out (1/4 of the way through the entire ride) than it did when I finished. I'm pretty exhausted, but feel pretty fuckin' stoked that I pushed myself (and SUCCEEDED!) so much.
I've seen bike paths crisscrossing Eugene for the past couple of years I've lived here, and I really enjoyed exploring the Fern Ridge Path I just did. I biked half the distance between Triflorian and the Fern Ridge Reservoir, which seemed impressive until I just google-earthed it at about 6 miles one way/12 miles total. Plus, it was flat (it's all protected wetlands starting about a mile from Triflorian), which is good, given this was my first real "bike ride" in 17 years. I've already noticed an increase in my endurance and strength from last week, which is very encouraging.
I was happy (and not entirely surprised) to see literally about 100+ people on the Path either walking, jogging, or biking. I really like the way biking is more "Present" than driving. There's a more intimate connection with your surroundings and your fellow walkers/bikers. At one point, there was a large turkey vulture that was gliding right above the ground, and I was riding within a dozen feet of it for a few minutes. It was like we were both Dancing in a way, and I felt like I was flying alongside him. It was truly beautiful for me. At the turnaround point where the Fern Ridge Path seems to end (in Meadowlark Prairie), I took a 20 minute breather and talked to an elderly couple, and then a fellow cyclist about some things (like the fact I need a water bottle holder for my bike, and prolly a few other things).
I had more to say, but I'm tired and hungry. More BBold updates tomale'... I'm gonna go fix myself a well-earned BBQ Sirloin burger with some homemade yukon-gold (baked) fries. Because I fuckin' deserve it.
2 Fucking Hours. I am soooo proud of myself :-D
