I just got a call from my dad inviting me to go see
Don Giovanni at
The Hult Center for Performing Arts. I'm happy about this for many reasons. I'm happy that my dad is making the effort to come and see me here in Eugene (we live about an hour and a half away from each other, and I tend to be the only one who ever makes the trip). I'm happy that I'm going to be able to see my first opera (the closest I've been to an opera was "Phantom of the Opera," which has always been my favorite musical). I'm also happy that I get to finally go to the Hult, which is one of many cultural beacons in lovely Eugene, OR--I've been wanting to go since I moved. I'm also happy that I am further engaging in the cultural events that I love about this city, but do not participate in as much as I'd like. I'm again reminded of why I'm happy to have gotten away from the cultural void that is Salem SoLame.
