i have a similar theory. a gift means alot more is it stolen. you can work a few hours orf days or even weeks or whatever to buy someone a gift. but i fyou steal it, you put your credibility, and jailtime on the balance. which i think is alot more meaningful. maybe the most meaningful gift would be a stolen knife?
