I am not colorblind, I see colors everyday. But I may be color dyslexic. My whole life I've drawn with pens and markers, rarely taking the time to produce a finished colored piece. Coloring this bird has been complicated. I mentioned in my previous post that translucent paints were forgiving but I am shifting positions on that statement. Darker colors are forgiving, while lighter colors are not. In this portion of the mural I feel that I have overworked the yellow and red. I have lost most of my brighter highlight areas to overspray. I plan to go back after my film appreciation class, and rework it with bright yellow to see if that will give a better blending effect. Lastly, I will add some burnt umber just beneath the head to hopefully add extra contrast. It might set the whole area off, or I may deal with a permanently darkened area. If I screw up, my only options are to carefully repaint areas with an opaque white, or attempt to remove the dried acrylic with a solvent. If I use opaque white I may paint over parts or my outline, and if I use a solvent like alcohol I could end up wiping my outline away. One other course of action could include painting in highlights with a opaque white using a hand brush and then airbrush those highlighted areas with a light yellow using the airbrush. God help me, I want it to look nice.
