One I love with selfish expectations, the other I love almost unconditionally.

One who tries her best to make me feel good about myself, the other makes me feel constantly inferior.

One whom I take for granted, the other whom I treat like a piece of gem.

One whose little faults can make me see red, the other whose actions can overstep my limits, and yet doesn't even ruffle my feathers even the slightest bit.

It's at this very moment when I'll ask the sky above, why is life so unfair?

In the middle of writing my journal entry, my attentions turned to the tv. It was showing a tvb drama depicting the Chu-Han war in ancient China. The leaders of Chu and Han were supposedly sworn brothers. They were at war for many years, after the end of the Qin dynasty, and many people died as a result. After a few years, the two leaders decided to end their misunderstandings and sign a peace treaty together. However, after signing for peace, the generals under the Han leader schemed to launch an attack on the Chu leader. At this point, the Han leader refused to do so, for he did not want to go back on his word, and he valued the friendship of the Chu leader immensely. But his generals refused to heed him and continued to scheme. Just when he thought he found an ally in Zhang Liang, his advisor, he was wrong.

This is the time when everything became so clear to him, and this is something, no matter how wrong it seems, that he must do.

Because Zhang Liang told him, everything has been predestined. He said, you, Liu Bang, is predestined to become Emperor, and that is why I chose to serve you; I have known from the start that everything that had to happen will happen, and this war, even though how wrong it seems, just have to go on, because, you, are meant to be the one ruler of unified China. He added, there is no right or wrong, no justice or injustice, because everything has to be judged by prevailing circumstances.

So Liu Bang went back on his word, gave a command to kill the person that was his beloved sworn brother.

And he did become the first Han Emperor, and the resulting Han dynasty lasted for 400 years, one of the longest if not the longest, and was considered the most prosperous period in Chinese history.

And that is why, I understood, in that case, if people have to die, they have to die, if there has to be a betrayal, there has to be one, because that's how the world works. For 4 years of war and people dying, came 400 years of peace and prosperity. Then, who's to say what's right or wrong?

As Zhang Liang stated, 'we are all but pawns of heaven'...

It is at this point when I fully comprehend the statement, that life goes on, no matter what. It's just how you want to derive the best out of it. Even if sadness and hurt has to be part and parcel of life....but if one could accept that fact with grace, what could be worse?

What's one person's suffering compared to the progression of mankind?
