Holy Naked Studs Batman! Spartacus is Back, And He's Barely Clothed!
So, I recently got a free trial of STARZ from my local cable company to go along with my HBO and SHOWTIME (True Blood and Dexter baby!) package. Besides the utter tedium of more premium channels and still nothing to watch I was quite ready to let my trial offer end until I saw the promo for STARZ's new series Spartacus: Blood and Sand below. Talk about hitting my buttons. I love historicals, and the ancient civilizations of Rome, Egypt, and ,Sumer (Dude someone so needs to do the story of Gilgamesh. Talk about hoyay) are at the top my list. Gladiator is also one of my favorite movies (Even with Russel Crowe starring. Go figure). I find the whole gladiator society and its role in history rather fascinating. For the subject matter alone I'd be interested in Spartacus, however I also find the look of the show rather appealing. The trailer shows a visual style that mimics 300 with a little Rome/Gladiator thrown in. I have my issues with 300 as a movie, but I adore it's look, so for me this a good thing. And although I doubt Spartacus will be nearly as gritty or well written as my beloved Rome. It does look like it's going to be stylized, sexy, bloody fun. With a great backstory of slaves fighting against oppression, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert at the helm, and Lucy Lawless starring, I can't help but be excited for this. But what do you think? Based on the trailer below is Spartacus something you'd want to see?
