Six months since the fall of Voldemort, emotions were still raw. Everyone had lost someone and the need to celebrate the shortened lives of loved ones was great.
Sad but sharply observant brown eyes caught his gaze across the sacred fire. He felt like she could see inside his soul, fraught with guilt at the role he had played. Ashamed, he turned away and made for the tree line.
Footsteps followed, crunching across the dry leaves on the ground. A warm hand gripped his.
He turned and saw eyes now filled with forgiveness.
Hermione smiled tightly. "It’ll be okay, Draco."
