So onward we went on our little trip to Norcal. Our proper sleep and eat stop was of course San Francisco. It's such lovely place to see and visit. After our long and windy 12 hour drive it was a nice reward. We were looking forward to a walk down the Wharf and then dinner in Chinatown once we got settled in our hotel.
Dan is one likes to plan as we go, otherwise known as the no-plan plan (I am raised differently). We arrived in SF without a place to stay and found our hotel by ringing up one whose name was outside a building with lovely brick architecture. Unfortunately, that hotel was booked for the weekend and they referred us to another hotel from the same company that was close by.
Off we went to that hotel only knowing that it was not too far away from the Wharf and that it had some psychedelic decor. Once we drove up, we realise that not only is our hotel right in the Union Square, it was also right in front of Chinatown! Win! Parking and driving is a pain in SF so this was such a boon. Plus, I loved that I could explore the city on foot. It's always the best that way and it makes for great photos. :)
We got our yummy dinner at Chinatown and even had some yummy fried crab. And dessert was from a French cafe that was right at the ground level of our hotel. We got to explore the city, saw some architecture and a few exhibitions as well as took a peek into some San Francisco daily life.
We also managed to eat more seafood down by the Wharf and even a roast duck breakfast at a busy Chinese restaurant -where all the signs were in Chinese and there were no other non-Chinese customers but Dan and I. One thing I learned from my trips, you know it's good when it's all locals!
