Kirsten Versus Chuck

Dec 28, 2010 22:28

Because when I get into something, I jump in headfirst... I've now completely caught up on all three and a half seasons of Chuck! WOO!! Hooked, and totally can't wait for the next new ep!

So, here's my little rambly thoughts. Spoilers for all US-aired episodes ahead!

So, uh, I don't even know where to start.

Chuck

Okay, how about here? Totally, nerd-ily (yes, that is a word now) adorkable. I LOVE that he can be a nerd, be a cool spy, gain confidence, but HE doesn't change. As was pointed out multiple times so far, he's still the same Chuck. More confident, and with more direction, but who he is really doesn't change. Hooray, character development done right!! His mannerisms crack me up. He's a true nerd. (The Sand Worm costume, BTW, rocked my socks)

And I love that, despite all that's happened to him, he still shies away from guns and killing people. It would be so easy for him to suddenly be a super-spy... but it's so much more interesting to see him fight that side of the job, even when he knows it's there. Early on, I told myself that the first time he ever kills anyone, it should be to save Sarah, and OMG it was, and that moment was beautiful. The complete hesitation to pull the trigger, and the war in him mind between killing someone and saving the woman he loves. He's done it, but HATED that he had to do it, and hasn't done it since. That's awesome.

Morgan

I want to hug him. All the time. He's just too adorable. Like Chuck, with with a little more "lovable doofus" thrown in the mix. The complete and utter loyalty is endearing! He may not always be the brightest crayon in the box, but he's loyal and willing to do whatever he has to. I love how when he learned Chuck's secret, he went with it. He gained confidence, too, but he still bumbles around and he's certainly not James Bond. It's very endearing! And I love how his relationship with Casey developed. They're friends, even if Casey doesn't like to admit the grudging respect he has for Morgan. But his actions (like letting Morgan date Alex) say everything.

Casey

Jayne 2.0... and still a Big Damn Hero. Adam Baldwin, you are The Man. Another very well-developed character! He's the big macho ex-Marine, with a good heart that he hides behind guns and big muscles. I love how he's able to quietly step up and defend his friends and still maintain his pride. He can show that he's their friend without getting all touchy-feely, and that's awesome. And for the record, I love the idea of him and Morgan as a team... they're so opposite, but they work well together.

The Intersect

Okay, this thing's kinda like it's own character. I somewhat miss Intersect 1.0... I liked seeing Chuck have to bumble his way through everything he didn't know. Intersect 2.0 seems a bit of a cop-out - he can use it to find his way out of everything, so long as it's working. It's rather like a deus ex machina. (I will admit... "Guys... I know kung fu!" was probably one of the most perfect lines uttered :P) However, I LOVE the idea that his emotions interfere with it. What makes him Chuck is that he's emotional, he's not stone cold, he gets worked up about things. And naturally that affects ANYONE'S ability to respond to tense situations, so I think it's cool that that translates here.

Chuck/Sarah

Um, writers of the world take note... THIS is how you set up a 'ship. The tension starts the moment she first walks into the Buy More. You get yoyo-ed around a bit in the first couple of seasons, but the tension continues to build until there's a resolution: they're an official item, for real. And that's not the end - there's such a real development to their relationship. They're not a perfect 50s-sitcom couple - they have problems, they have fights. But they don't have soap opera drama. There's balance, there's adorable snuggling, there's arguing and making up and OMG I LOVE IT.

I love that everyone around them supports them, General Beckman included. In that respect, drama was kept to a minimum. The writers could have had a long, drawn-out battle with the CIA brass over the issue, but instead, they gave them support and moved on. (Personally, I'd love to see Beckman even turn up at their wedding ;))

I just about started crying at the end of Chuck Versus Phase Three when Sarah's trying to wake him up in Thailand, and she just pours her heart out to him. It was so PERFECTLY executed in that moment. The writing, the acting... I could watch that scene over and over and over again.

And on the subject of the proposal... it will come before the end of the season, I'm sure. The question is when and how. Personally, I'd love to see something simple. While his little map was a cute idea, it would seem so much more like him to keep it simple, and do it in someplace really meaningful to both of them rather than any fancy place. Hell, I'd be happy if it happened after hours at the Buy More, just the two of them, standing at the Nerd Herd desk - that is, after all, the first place they met. Thoughts?

Fandom Stuffs!

Okay, so anyone got good fanfic recs? I could trawl ff.net but... well, it's ff.net. :P Chuck/Sarah is good, clearly. General stuff is okay, too! I just want the good stuff!

Totally wanna draw some fanart, too. I got a shiny new set of Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils for Christmas that are BEGGING to be broken in. So anyone that has screencaps begging to be drawn, shoot them my way...

Also, I just read a Tangled article where Zachary Levi admitted that he is a "Disnerd" (the only people who ever even KNOW that word are the people who actually ARE Disnerds), that Aladdin was his favorite Disney prince (until Flynn Rider, of course), and then started quoting Newsies. Seriously? LOVE. SO MUCH LOVE.
