Story 247: "Salvador" by Eleanor G

This is a brand new nomination. I haven't read it, but I remember reading "Undying" a long while back and liking it a lot. I just read her post-ep for "Deep Throat." I liked it. Then I read her post-ep for "Conduit." I liked it, too ( Read more... )

Okay, this is going to be pretty self-centered. And difficult. Because I agree with the positive things said about Salvador. It is well-structured, has believable characters, reveals truckloads of research and hard work. I thoroughly approved of it ( ... )

But mostly I wanted acting, camera-work, and Mark Snow's music.

Maybe it's time for a mini-rewatch? Suggest an episode, I'm up for it! (How about pairing "Irresistible" and "Orison"? since I'm thinking about writing fanfic for them?)

I'm sorry you put yourself through this. We're supposed to be having fun--and if it isn't working for you, there is no obligation to keep going.

A mini rewatch would be cool with me. And/or we could read something short and fun/ny next. I wish I had something specific in mind in that category...I will see if I can think of some ideas.

I will read anything, and most likely like it. I'm sort of easy that way.

Continuing backwards in the queue, it's either going to be Mountainphile's "Low Profile," which is a light take on "Bad Blood," or something by Malibu Sunset. I have some issues with "Low Profile," but I'm not going tackle her long pieces, not unless someone else wants to take lead. If EC thinks "Salvador" needed an edit, I can't imagine what she'd say about "Seeds of Synchronicity." I did start it and had to stop due to a gratuitous mention of oral pleasuring. Just--no ( ... )

When you start out with oral sex within the first couple of paragraphs, and it's Mulder helping Scully to fall asleep type oral sex, I mean, please. Who does that anyway and why is that even a thing? The casefile might be great but I can't read that fic. Maybe if she'd posted a PG-version. Back in the day, people used to do that in Stargate fandom, post a NC-17 version and a PG version with all of the sex edited out. It was great.

Oh, and we're doing a rewatch here. For seven days. Starting tomorrow.

It just happened...

Forget my previous suggestion. What about this list: you gotta love this place. every day's like halloween.?

My other active community, a Fringe Rewatch, is on hiatus until July. So that gives me ten days. Let's start tomorrow with Ice. We can skip the episodes we covered in the last two rewatches. So that leaves Ice, Little Green Men, Pusher, Quagmire, Detour, and Small Potatoes. We can do an episode a day or every other day.

If there are episodes you are dying to watch that aren't on that list just tell me. I love so many episodes.

You can watch whatever you want, I'll put fic recs (when available) in the post to make it worthwhile to the people who are just here for the recs anyway.

Although we had different reactions to the story, I do strongly agree that I would have loved to have seen this as an episode (and possibly loved it more than I liked reading it). And I was very sad to see Octavio go. I so wanted a happy (well, relatively speaking) ending there, for him and Leda. I sort of figured that was just me being sorta sappy, though ;)

I miss the show (the old one, not the new one), and I guess I read XF fanfic for much the same reasons you did. has stopped reading fanfic and (re)watching the show, and that's for the best, though sad for us. Sometimes you have to move on, as I guess you have, too, since you're now writing fic for Sherlock. Although I think she missed the mark on this one, often her acerbic wit was right on the money. I miss it. I miss her.

And I miss you, too.

Funny, when I read a fic and feel it would be really great to watch it as an episode (or two), then I figure that is pretty much what I'm looking for. Of course, there are those fics that are just no way no how suited for television audiences that we love nonetheless, but still, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
