do i see testicles?
last friday bryan and i went to the hospital for the official 1st trimester ultrasound. they'll use this to test for trisomy 21 / down's syndrome. they measured the thickness of the neck and took some blood samples. the doc asked us if we wanted to know the sex of the baby. i was surprised we would be able to see something so early. the doc moved the transducer around and i realized we were looking up from the butt. i was like "are those testicles!?" and the doc laughed at me. "it's a penis." hey, i though testes would be more dense on the ultrasound than a little penis! so there you have it, they think it's a boy!
the entire time we were in the waiting room i felt awful. i knew i was coming down with something. by the time i got home i had a fever and i ached terribly in the back, hips and knees. i called my ob/gyn just to make sure i didn't need to head to the hospital. she said to just rest and drink lots of fluids, take tylenol for the fever and look out for nausea/vomiting/blood. i took the tylenol because my head was killing me from head congestion, and the fever was starting to get high (almost 102). i'm finally starting to feel human again and will head back to work tomorrow. i lost a bunch of weight this weekend, and am constantly STARVING. if i dont eat something every hour or so, i feel REALLY sick. it's pretty tedious. i'm probably not the only pregnant woman out there not totally reveling in it. heh. or at least, i'd like to think so.
oh and i need to post next time about how much my maternity leave sucks it. so for those of you in the NYC or DC area, let me know if you hear of anyone giving away baby stuff. i'll take it!!!
one thing i do not understand is the women in the online communities that won't take ANYTHING when they are pregnant and sick with a fever. a prolonged fever seems to me to be a higher risk to the baby. i have to be careful when i read those threads. i don't want to be paralyzed by fear of something that may or may not harm the baby. anyhoo...
i saw the funniest dunkin donuts commercial earlier. i wish i could find it on youtube!
