Campaign ver 2.0 or let them eat...well, whatever the hell they want.

After my last D20 modern campaign imploded from disinterest (a campaign set to take a long time shouldn't be played every 3 weeks), I, due to popular demand, am going back to basics:  D&D 3.5ed.  It is a bit "jazzed" up by using the Eberron setting, but still fairly bareknuckle 1st level slogging ( Read more... )

The campaign begins in a small town called Duskvale on the coast of the Silver Lake. It is a border town of Breland, Droaam, and the Eldeen Reaches. It is basically a wagon/caravan port with a very small perpetual population (<900). The town is run by 3 people in various capacities: Leland d' Deneith is the dragonmarked rep of House Deneith who recruits various "beasts" from Droaam, Ronan Cutting (a rip-off of Bill "the Butcher" Cutting from "Gangs of New York")is the Thieves Guild head in town. He wields a great deal of power due to the transient nature of the populace and his hands in everyone's porridge. He originates from the Guilds of Sharn and is very aware that that the "hicks" of the borders don't understand how business is run in the Towers. The last leader is Gymorius "Gym" Trowel-carrier, a representative of House Orien. He is a half-orc who longs for the peace of the country side, but owes a debt to the House since the Last War; they met him halfway by sending him to the Sticks. He basically follows Ronan's lead on most things (as does anyone who knows what's good for them).

The main "trouble" in the town is the incursion of more and more orcish groups coming from Droaam. Apparently, a dispute with the Sisters and famine has lead to a small scale exodus from the land by a few groups of orc clans. The town has generally gotten along well with the groups of Droaam (weathering the occasional incursion here and there), but this recent move has the humans (in particular Ronan) concerned about a larger migration. A recent rash of killings is further inflaming humans against orcs. Apparently (so the newstellers say) 3 young human girls have been violated, murdered, and multilated in the past 2 months. Is it the orcs (as some pro-human groups would have you believe)? Is it a greater evil (as the Druids believe)? Or perhaps is something far more mundane, yet insidious?

The twist is that the killings are actually being performed by an ex-adventurer by the name of Callan Far-sight. Callan is the local hero who's party of adventurers braved the jungles of Xendrik and brought back quite a sum of riches to the town (but none of his compatriots). It turns out, upon further investigation, that the total number of deaths is closer to 14, the first being Callan's own daughter. Callan's daughter had an orcish lover and Callan (who had never been quite right since returning from Xendrik) murdered and dismembered her. What happened to him in Xendrik? Can the adventurers find and defeat him?

See, I told you the orcs in Ebberron rule. About half the time. When they aren't Dragon Below cultists.

You should run a campaign sometime or at least come up with the content. You have a great grasp of setting and you definitely have the gift of imagination and knowledge. If you are finding the actual logistics of it daunting, Steve is all about the number crunching when it comes to DMing. If you've already given it a go, what setting/ campaign hook did you use, might I ask?

I recommend this of course realizing the sheer PILES of time you have just laying about :-P

How can I attach a .pdf to my posts? I've done some preliminary sketches of some of the characters and I would like to post them.
