In my email this morning....

Names have been changed to protect the innocent:

Coworker,

I am responding to your help desk ticket through normal e-mail because the server went down so work could be done in our computer room.

Unfortunately we do not have any spare CD-Writers, of spare machines that we can take one out of. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I am afraid that we won't be able to help you with this request. If you need the capability to back up data, a CD-Writer, or external USB drive will need to be purchased for you.

IT Worker

WTF?! I mean seriously. He's asked for this burner before. I've told him, "Sorry, we don't have any in the office, but I'll order you one when we do our yearly order." Which I did. And was recently told that everything we asked for is going to be purchased - we just don't know when yet. It's a frustrating process around here.

He's been on me for a burner for a while but there's nothing I can do. We have a couple of USB ones, but the PC he wants to use it on doesn't do USB 2.0. It's an old machine, used for email and Internet and it's an unclassified PC. We don't work on the unclassified side, so honestly, it's not a priority. And it's not like there aren't other people in the office with burners on the unclassified side who can't burn things for him, so he's really not going without.

I'm just so fed up with this petty bullshit.
